We were talking about having a small Halloween event. There won't be any games involving attacks in this one because Gaia is doing a full scale battle already. Instead, we are planning on having a scary avi contest, a frightening RP, ghost stories around a camp fire, and more! Because of the popular response from the last random number game, I was thinking about having another one. If you would like to donate anything towards the prizes, please send any items/gold to Ellineath (this account). Ellineath is the guild mule she exists only to help serve this guild. biggrin

Ellineath is my mule. heart I really want to do guild-wide trick or treating. I have an idea in mind for how it would work. That would be a great way to make sure that everyone gets a prize without having to break the bank. lol

Thanks for the donations Green! Scythe, I can use whatever you can give. biggrin
Actually, I have a really neat idea planned for trick or treat. It is going to be an above you game. I will post first and be the house. The person who posts below me will be the kid and trick or treat. I will send an inexpensive item (that goes for more than 100g in the marketplace) to that person. Then that person will become the house and send a prize to the person who posts right below him/her. That way, everyone gets a prize! xd And anyone can trick or treat as much as they want, because they are supporting the thread by giving away prizes while they are getting prizes.
I'm actually at a loss right now. I started doing events to encourage guild activity, but it seems that almost everyone is gone. sad We have some great members, but most of them are AWOL. xp

Yeah, I fell away from Gaia myself near the beginning of the fall semester. sad I miss all of our absentees though. I haven't seen Dew, Li-Mei, Twi, or Diablos around much recently. I wonder if it's a family thing.
But, what do you think of the trick or treat idea? biggrin

Gaia is a virtual reality and I've always strongly believed that real life should come before virtual life. Though there are real people behind the keyboards, so one should always be polite. [/randomtwocents]
Okay, I think the trick-or-treating sounds super fun. I have one suggestion to pumpkin-spice it up. wink Let's say certain numbered posts are the "witch's houses" and when a user trick-or-treats, say, on post number 36, then he or she gets a special prize. It's just more incentive for people to keep coming back and trick-or-treating.
There could be three haunted houses matched to three random numbers. It can even be a secret! How does that sound?

Ooo! That sounds really neat! xd But, how are we going to choose secret numbers and still show that we're being fair?
Just as a random aside, I keep going back and forth between Gaia and a paper I'm writing. It's a good distraction. But at this point, I probably don't need any distractions. sweatdrop

Haha, well I guess I shouldn't be encouraging you! XD
Then we can announce the numbers at the beginning of the thread and people can keep trick-or-treating toward the goal. I wouldn't make the number really high because there's not a ton of us active guild members.
Or a non-playing person can come and drop in a special icon, like a bat or a ghost, and the first person to quote the secretive post wins a prize!

You have some good ideas. biggrin We might just have to do that!
I'm actually doing a feminist reading of "The Wife of Bath" from The Canterbury Tales. I have some good arguments, but I'm really sick of doing this paper. This one is due on Monday. I have another one due on Tuesday that I haven't started on yet. Both have page minimums of 7 pages. sweatdrop

Feminism . . . not my favorite criticism. But it shouldn't be out of the question to apply it to "The Wife of Bath's Tale." For example, she's obviously a wealthy woman, and she has her own freedom to up and go on a pilgramage to Canterbury. What was her tale about, anyway? Was it the one about the hairy woman? I haven't read it in a few years.

I think you're referring to the Miller's Tale. Her tale focuses on a knight's quest to find out what all women want. But, I'm sticking more to the wife's prologue where she talks about her views of sexuality and marriage. 3nodding I'm pretty much done with that paper now. I'm just doing a bit of editing. The problem is that I have another paper to write for Tuesday. @_@ I am doing my next one on novels in Northanger Abbey. Apparently, people used to look down on people who read kind of like they do now with people who spend all of their time on World of Warcraft or something.

Oh, "The Miller's Tale"! I remember "The Wife of Bath's Tale" now. It was really good. I love how Chaucer can take a buffoonish character and convey transcendental truths through their stories.
Northanger Abbey is one of my preferred Austen books. I like all the references to gothic stories. And yes, I remember there being a minor stigma about girls that read a bunch of silly supernatural books. You can see the effect of the reading on Catherine right away. She suspects all sorts of crazy things. On the other hand, I always thought the tales helped her to understand things she might not otherwise be able to put into words about people. So even though the General didn't murder his wife, he was a real grouch all along.
I'm having to work on my master's thesis. Wish we were closer so we could meet at a Panera Bread or Borders and study together. emo
