I recently read this article and towards the middle it brings up Muslim reverts in prison...250,000 inmates in prison (mostly of African decent) have reverted to Islam!

The writer then asks, "What brings them to Islam? Survival? Acceptance? Rejection of Christianity? Spiritual transformation?" But he never goes into detail on why...

Has anyone seen studies on why so many inmates are reverting to Islam?
What reason do YOU think the reason may be?

Maybe because they have time to think. Since they're in their prison all the time, they have all the time in the world to read, discover, pick up hobbies, etc, and they have time to reflect on their past actions. Some might hear about Islam, pick up a copy of the Quran, decide they like the religion, and convert. Don't know of any studies that research this though, but that might be a reason

I think it gives them a sense of faith. Hope. Something to believe in. Maybe, as a Muslim, they will they learn to accept their punishment and see it as a reward. Because, Allah punishs those whom he loves. And a person should WISH to be punished in this world rather in the next.
