The original design is from Baby.

The one I made is not exactly like this (pentagon), mine is a square skirt. I wanted to start with something easy. I recommend that you make a test skirt with cheap fabric, to see if the lenght and size are ok and to get practice (if you're a beginner).

here are the steps:
1- determine the length you want for your skirt; longer or shorter than your petticoat. This length will give you the size of the square you'll cut. Remember that you have margins to add. See the red arrow for the length.User Image

2-for the circle: measure your waist and resolve the formula in my 3nd drawing. Now that you know ''r'' you can use the circumference formula. Then, you draw that circle in the middle of the square ( remember your margins!!). to balance the shape of the skirt, you need to make your circle an ellipse (see my very first drawing, the red curves). Then cut the inside of the ellipse.

3-save a place for the zipper in the elipse!

4-sewing time! sew the hem of the ellipse. Then sew the hem of the square.

5-add the zipper

you can add a waistband, lace on the hems, ect.

And voila! now use your brain to make a cincher that will go with the skirt!
