I thought we needed a thread about this, since I know a lot of young folks are passionate about this issue. And it seems we're the only ones, judging by how those old stuffy politicians are doing next to nothing.

So, let's discuss!
What has your country done to help the environment?
What type of energy is mostly used in your country at the moment?
Do you know your CO2 Emissions per capita?
What type of energy would be appropriate for your country?
Do you have ideas, thoughts, complaints?

Do share!

For reference, here's a list of CO2 emissions per capita, by country:
Link

And Here is a web site with different statistics concerning the environment such as efficiency and forest area percentages. More forest means cleaner air!

I will be adding more to this post later, such as info on various types of bio-fuel and sustainable energy, recycling etc. =)

My country has just been dragging in the debates for kyoto and messing with baselines.
Stephen Harper is a jerk.
We're number 9 for CO2 emmisions.
Grren party FTW!

So...you live in Canada, is that right? surprised

I can't believe the per capita numbers for Qatar @_@ 40 tonnes per person, each year! probably because of oil industry, but still.

I'm in Sweden, we're number 51 on the per capita list, and number 50 on the total list but I'd like us to go drop a bit from there xD We've started this oil phase-out program, so we hope to have stopped using fossil fuels completely in a few years.
More than half our energy comes from hydropower, and the rest is pretty much all nuclear.

I do think that nuclear power is better than fossil fuels, but I hate it anyway - it's so volatile and scary, I mean, if something goes wrong it goes REALLY wrong.

EDIT:
Oh, and what really gave me the idea for this thread was that I just found out Australia has banned plastic bags. I'm sort of annoyed with that. Sure, not using plastic bags is good... but it's not good enough. Especially for the third least enviro-friendly country.

It's like the government is trying to show off and set an example "look at how green we are, we use eco-bags!"

Yet they still misconstruct reservoirs causing droughts and they still burn coal and pump oil from the ground. A country that has perfect conditions to rely on solar electricity, yet they're so primitive.

It makes me want to go back down there and kick Kevin Rudd in the face.
