Ok here's what's gonna happen, we're all gonna give our views and ideas for the SOLUTION instead of focusing on the problem. Ok?

Great Idea, man! I for one, Think that we are on the mend with all the work on Eco cars, and all the popularity of being green. If we could keep this up, we'll be back on track!

Paper plates may seem horrable, but if you only buy a little, with wax, and reuse them over, and over, and over, there better than plastic.

Complete_Spazz Paper plates may seem horrible, but if you only buy a little, with wax, and reuse them over, and over, and over, there better than plastic. My family actually doesn't use the plastic kind. We use the paper plates. I think you mean that you can reuse the plastic kind because they are thicker, stronger, etc. But the paper plates we use don't really have wax over them. They are just stronger paper.

How about using actual plates. They are 100% re-usable and they wont end up in a land fill. All systems whether they are higher lifeforms (like humans, animals, and plants) or lower lifeforms (like bacteria, viruses, and prions) generate waste. Humans have found ways to generate wastes that are persistant (cigarette filters will be here long after all other traces of humanity are wiped from Mother Earth) We have found almost limitless ways to destroy Mother Earth's natural resources even as we try to save them (paper products and ethanol, I'm looking at you!). The choices we make on a daily basis will impact our Earth. It is our job as humans and citizens of this planet to make good choices. Opt for real plates and cups instead of disposable ones. Purchase items that have minimal packaging. Shop locally! Okay, I apologize for editorializing. I will relinquish the soapbox.

i've recently been researching cleaning products. it seems that there are a lot of things that are not only harmful to the earth, but to me as well (it would help if i wasn't allergic to nearly everything). i don't buy nearly as many products now, most of them having multiple uses. and, i don't have to worry about nieces children drinking them.

Okay here is a guy that we can all be proud of. His name is Chad Pregracke. He and the crew at Living lands and Waters have been cleaning up the Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Potamac Rivers. They have branched out into river bottom restoration and educational programs. Check out his website at Living Lands and Waters to see the stats on what they have removed from these rivers. (Spazz - Thanks for helping out the clueless biggrin )

I honestly don't believe there is a solution to this problem. crying sweatdrop However, there are ways to help the enviroment to reduce this issue. I gave a huge amount of things I do to reduce energy, and help the enviroment. mrgreen I believe if we all eat organic foods, recycle, reuse, reduce, use totes instead of plastic bags, grow gardens, we were all vegetarians, we all turned off and unplugged all appliances, we all took three to five minute showers, we all drove ecofriendly cars or (even better) rode bikes, and we limited our phone calls and use of our appliances, we would definitley all help the enviroment. I basically do all these things. wink biggrin 3nodding Peace and Love, Sazzie heart

finally someone has the sense to bring up a soulution instead of focusing on the problem. if everyone thought like this our home wouldnt need saving. I have three things i do on a regular basis that help our mother nature: 1. use eco-friendly cleaning products(they work better than chamicals and theyre eco) 2. squish my dads cigaretts until they are little heaps of whatever theyre REALLY made of 3. turn off alll electrical appliances when they are nnot in use

If we got rid of cars completely, it would do. In my eyes, humans are unbelievably lazy. Walk, rather than drive. I refuse to drive, I prefer walking places.

Complete_Spazz Paper plates may seem horrable, but if you only buy a little, with wax, and reuse them over, and over, and over, there better than plastic. 30% of all trees go into producing paper. It's silly. We need to use other resources that don't take 80+ years to grow. Paper can be made from anything (Kenaf is one of the better alternatives). Paper plates are super wasteful. Why not just use real plates? Or non-disposable plastic plates?
