NUCLEAR ENERGY

How do you feel about nuclear energy? I know quite a lot about this subject because I did a huge report/speech on it last year, but many people don't know the pros and cons. Do you? You may have decided already whether you support nuclear energy or not. But do you know all the facts? Let's find out.

The Pros
-Creates Jobs (Construction workers, operators, maintenance, technicians, engineers, supervisors, waste shipping specialists, etc.)
-Provides another source of energy
-Little Pollution (Creates cleaner air)
-Safety (Many things are done to prevent disasters, however, also see cons)
-Inexpensive compared to other energy sources
-Billions dollars has already been provided for research and development for nuclear energy (It's getting more and more advanced. Not as much money has been invested into other energy sources)

The Cons
-Meltdowns (Three Mile Island and Chernobyl are big examples)
-Radiation (Creates radiation sickness cancer)
-Waste Disposal (Very dangerous and expensive to dispose waste. Also, radioactive waste stays radioactive for thousands of years.)
-Safety (If something were to occur--if one thing broke or went wrong--the effect could be disastrous. Also see Three Mile Island and Chernobyl accidents.)
-Price of Uranium is rising (Now, nuclear energy costs more because of scarcity)
-Disposed waste can harm soil, which can get into our water, harm our animals, etc.

These are only a few! The list could go on and on. So, with these in mind--and the facts you already know--did your opinion change? Or did this confirm your side of the argument? Discuss your opinions and views about Nuclear Energy. I would love to hear! ^_^

The technology has com a long way since three miles island. It's now really really safe actually. there is little to none radiation off put. It's A LOT cleaner than coal. Coal has radon and uranium and many other radioactive elements inside of it and when burned it puts all of that inot the air and people who live near plants that burn coal are more likeley to suffer radiation poisoning and often do. I lived near a nuclear power plant for most of my life and am still tumor free. I vote for nuclear energy.

I know that it's cleaner. But I still believe that there are other sources of energy that are great. Such as wind turbines, solar energy, etc. They are 100% pollution free. Sure, solar energy may be expensive, and not as advanced as nuclear energy--I'm not saying I disagree with nuclear energy--but there are other ways to get energy besides just nuclear energy. Because, yes, it does have it's downs. I don't think that the world should be working on just one energy source. I would like to see more wind turbines and solar energy used, however.

Nuclear energy actually doesn't really have any advantages.
The amount of fossil fuel used in the transportation of uranium is enough to have a significant impact (comparable to the amounts used to generate energy from coal).
Radioactive decay takes about 250,000 years, and has to done under such a ridiculous amount of scrutiny in order to be done safely. It's virtually impossible to not have significant pollution because of this.
A single nuclear power plant takes about 15 years to set up, which doesn't really fit any time line.
The people involved in actually harvesting uranium are at risk.
It's not clean, it's not renewable, and it's very dangerous. There is little margin for error.

The reason it's being proposed is because it means that oil companies will still easily profit from it.

Wind, solar, tidal, hydro, and geothermal energy are much better options. They would be totally self-sustaining and cut our reliance on fossil fuels. Here's another thing: Those options will create jobs, too.

im not a big fan of it, i think we should stick with further developing cleaner ways of getting energy like wind and solar.
