Is it okay to be mean to other people. Be rude and call them names and such. Just for the fun of it? Is ok to cuss?

I think you're missing the point there. It's meant to induce respect, and respect is universal. The internet is no different than speaking to someone on the street. Hence, I think it applies.

I mean, if it's frowed upon to be rude in real life, why should you do it on the internet?

I agree, i hate that some people think just becaose of the anonymity of the internet they think they can be rude, use foul language and say things they would never say in person.

I was playing zOMG last night and a group of idiots were going on with "yo momma" jokes..that also included plenty of cursing and insults...I gave them the suggestion a couple of times to go into a crew chat instead of shouting this all around the place...
At first they had to be all sarcastic and ask me who the **** I thought I was...for butting into their conversation...
and I said "I'm a guy with a college degree...and I know the rules on Gaia" to shorten what I said to get through to them and then they finally took my hint and went to crew mode to do their insulting of one another...
I really don't understand the enjoyment of insulting others..I see it simply as unhappiness translated into a minor diversion..hey, if I'm not happy, why should others be happy? or some other such nonsense ...sad really...
I've found that complimenting, being nice and including others into stuff in a positive way much more rewarding ...

A lot of people talk trash on zomg. once i was in a crew and i had defib and if i didnt defib someone, then we were all gonna die, so i defibed the closest person to me and the other girl started cursing at me cuz i didnt defib her. and she was even more pissed because she was the one who volunteered to wait inside the place. then i was really sad and pretended i had something to do and left the crew... i think the girl i defibed left too because they started bashing on her too because she couldn t stay alive too long.

I crew occasionally, and join crews occasionally...and at the first sign of idiocy, I just leave. XD If I think that it's one person and most of them are okay, I try to get that person to stop acting that way. Of course you can't make anyone do anything, so the situation is always different. In that situation you were in, I'd recommend we all just start over or one wait to be defibbed to hold the place and the rest heal. They changed alot so that some quests you are immediately returned to the beginning and that's cool. Really, it's just a game and a way to interact with others...just shows me how many out there I don't want to interact with confused
