Ramadan is coming up very soon. So let us discuss why Muslims need to fast.
Why do we have to fast? What's the good thing about fasting? What do we get from fasting? How do we fast?
Some simple question may be asked from non-Muslim and from Muslim ourselves, why we can't do things and what we must do. Such as....
Why can't we pick our nose? Why can't we have intercourse? What are the do and don't when fasting in Islam?
If there is/are any question(s), feel free to ask. I am asking these myself. My memories are not that good. T.T

Firsst off, you may want to move this to the main forum, then someone may actually see it and respond sweatdrop
Here are my personal answers...
1) Why do we have to fast?
Because it's said in the Qur'an, i dont have a better answer >< But i swear my answers in the other Q's will get better rofl
"O ye who believe, fasting is prescribed for you...so that you will (learn how to attain) piety" (2:183)
2) What's the good thing about fasting?
Your discipline is tested, because its not easy going without food/drink for a day. Also, body wise fasting restores a healthy digestion and elimination, and peristaltic action goes quicker.
3) What do we get from fasting?
A feeling of accomplishment, and a feeling that we have pleased our creator by showing we can fast. During Ramadan is when I focus a lot more on the fact i COULD eat but i choose not to, where as other people dont choose not to eat. People who have no food, and go day by day not knowing when their next meal is.
It makes me reflect on how blessed I am to have a fridge of food.
4) How do we fast?
Eating/drinking before dawn, then eating and drinking at dusk, breaking fast with Iftar.
5) Why can't we pick our nose?
Not sure, but i dont pick my nose outside Ramadan either XD
6) Why can't we have intercourse?
Can't we do it at night? >>
"It is made lawful for you to go unto your wives on the night of the fast. They are raiment for you and ye are raiment for them..." (2:187)
7) What are the do and don't when fasting in Islam?
Umm..with fasting, dont eat or drink during sun hours XD
Hrrm..do you mean for all of Ramadan? If so...
* Do pray * Do read Qur'an or lectures, rather than magazines or leisure books. * Do listen to nasheeds or lectures, rather than mainstream music. * Do use this time to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses in Islam and with Allah (swt) Because none of us are perfect! * Do be giving, and giving is not just monetary, it can also be a helping hand or kind words of advice :]
* Don't miss prayers * Don't gossip! * Don't fight, though fighting is not good outside Ramadan * Don't be looking at na-mehram's unnecessarily, lower your gaze. And dont be talking on the phone with them, if not needed. * Don't listen to mostly mainstream music, try to listen to nasheeds, lectures or Qur'an instead.

With my breakfast at dawn i plan to also drink a Slim Fast, which is an appetite suppressant.

I have another answer for what we get from fasting. Not only do we get to feel what the poor feel, but we also learn self restraint.

How about drink some milk? And dates? Hey! I'm not talking about going out for a date! stare I know what are you thinking there. XD The dates I'm talking about is a fruit. It has lots of carbohydrates and give you a enough energy to work for the rest of the day. =P Good for fasting. As for milk, I can't remember what it can do for your stomach. Something like, helps to ease from gastric? Err... I really need to read a lot. =w= Just don't forget to pray and niat before eating. XD Uh-oh! And Ruby Light, this is gonna be your first Ramadan. What do you think about it? ^ ^ Have you try to fast before Ramadan?
