alot of people keep pets that eat primarily meat. most of these pets include cats and dogs, but needless to say there are plenty of other animals out there that eat meat that we like to keep as pets.
my question is what do you think about pushing human morals on an animal, like being a vegitarian.
nothing against vegitarians, its just a question. if it right to feed a meat eating animal a meat free diet because of the human moral that its wrong to kill anything? is it right to sacrifice nutrition for morals?
i personaly believe that if your not willing to feed your meat eating pet meat then you probably shouldnt get it, but i know that there are plenty of people in the world who would disagree with me on that.

Complete_Spazz Good point, but my dogs don't seem to mind dry dog food. My dog eats dry dog food as well, but they have flavors too. Such as chicken, etc. I think my dog eats a vegetable flavor dog food. We don't push it on her, but it's healthy for her and she likes it. We give her meat flavored treats though. I think that people have the choice of pushing vegetarianism on their pets. But if they don't like the vegetable flavored stuff, they should eat meat.

dry dog food is still made with meat, well the better brands at least, alot of the cheaper brands hardly have meat in them. i give my dog dry food, but i give her evo which is mostly meat and made with human grade materials. i adore how it makes her coat feel ^.^

Shanna66 dry dog food is still made with meat, well the better brands at least, alot of the cheaper brands hardly have meat in them. i give my dog dry food, but i give her evo which is mostly meat and made with human grade materials. i adore how it makes her coat feel ^.^ My dog has to take pills (such as fish oil) for her fur and skin because she has a strange condition where she loses her fur. She also has to be on medication for the rest of her life. She even has her own pill box. We give her pills every morning and night. xd (By the way, I adore that animal in your signature! Is it a gecko?)

Is it a gecko?) i have my sig set to show a random picture each time someone sees it, but any and all gecko pics you see in my sig are of my largest leopard gecko. her name is ethen and i love her to death ^.^ i have 4 other leopard geckos. i keep on forgetting to pu pics of the rest of my reptiles in there. one of my rats has to be on medication for the rest of his life because of how petco treated him. the slightest bit of dust or smoke sets off his respitory system. thats one of the reasons im all for animal testing for medical reasons, otherwise my baby would be dead by now

I've always been against people forcing their diets on their animals; it's just very wrong to me. Goes along the same lines of people feeding their pets the cheapest dry food they can find. Just... why have a pet if you're not going to treat it well or can afford it? I don't expect everyone to buy the most expensive brand, but come on... Ol' Roy dog food has to be the worst thing ever you can feed a dog. We sometimes mix it with rat chow at the wildlife rehab I work at and feed it to the feeder rats... and even sometimes they won't eat it.

Honestly, with the way most dog and cat foods are prepared, vegetarian alternatives are actually most likely a better option in terms of nutrition.
The standards for most commercially made pet foods are incredibly low.
For dog food, ground leather and leather and vegetable oil meets most standards. Cats food is often made with corn (which to cats is completely indigestible), and some other vegetables with a tiny amount of, "meat product," which could really be anything.
I actually think we should feed cats and dogs according to what they need, but what they need is almost never what's offered commercially.

How do animals on a raw diet handle microbes like Salmonella, Lysteria and fecal coliforms? (I feed my cat raw ground beef sometimes but I worry that she might get sick. The FDA sorta sucks at inspecting our food supply as the most recent peanut scare pointed out)

The FDA sorta sucks at inspecting our food supply as the most recent peanut scare pointed out) cats and dogs digestive systems arent that different from their wild counterparts, their systems are made to deal with bacteria like that. i still rinse off and freeze any raw meat before i give it to my dogs though, just to kill most of the bacteria and any parasites in the meat. im still doing research on all raw diets for domesticated animals so i dont have all the asnwers, im still learning the basics so all my dogs get is their chicken wings 1-4 times a week. also the reason im choosing meat with bones in it is becasue it helps clean their teach and makes them eat slower because they have to deal with the bone. it really helps work on their jaw and neck muscles. and i agree with that last part. the fda sucks. its because of them im trying to use all organic food for my pet rats and the feeder animals for my reptiles. they let way too many things get by, alot of them arent even healthy for humans.
