Sorry if there's already a post on this (I looked and didn't see any)...I've always heard you should start designing your room from your closet, what better to do than make my room Lolita themed?

I can't paint my room because my parents are crazy like that, but since my walls are white, so it's versatile. Also, the entire second floor (including my room) is Halloween themed as of now, it'd be great if I could somehow just add onto that theme since I've already got it...

So, have any suggestions? I'm on a tight budget so thrifty ideas would be good, but my birthday's coming up soon and I pick my own presents (again, my parents are crazy), so I can splurge a little. I can sew decently, but I have no idea where to begin.

Thank you for your time and help!

You say that the second floor is Halloween themed, I'd go for a black and white gothic lolita feel. Maybe something just a little Tim Burton-y.
I'd start with putting some prints up on your walls, since even if you could paint your room that would be a big hassle. You can either buy them or print things off from the internet, which is moderately cheaper (when you consider how often you need to change your cartages when printing high-quality) but not very good quality. You might consider buying prints off of DeviantArt, you can find a good variety there, for any kind of lolita. (But for a gothic look, I'd lean towards ink drawings and black and white photographs)
You should ask your parents about hanging up pictures before you do it. They might object if they don't want you painting your room for a reason other than the hassle.
Also, look in discount stores for ornate, sort of baroque frames for the prints. Just find something a little gaudy and ask yourself, "Would this look gaudy in conjunction with the rest of the room?" Just like a miniture top hat covered in lace looks odd worn with jeans and a tee shirt, but adorable with a matching dress, something that looks outragous in the store might be just what your room needs.

The canopy Lorili Hime suggested is a good idea, I would look in the bridal fabrics for lace veiling. If you make your own canopy, you can then make matching curtains out of the same fabric. If you get enough, you can even make drapes to cute up other pieces of furniture. (though I do not recommend making a computer cozy) And if you overdo this, your room will look like a little old lady who crochets doilies lives there.

But I do love gothic lolita and Tim Burton so that might just be me.

A final thought, which would work for any type of lolita, if you have the room to do so display a doll collection. Just set them on any flat surface you're not using. China dolls look classier than Barbies, I'd recommend looking in antique shops and the internet. Stuffies are a cuter and probably cheaper option.

Good luck and post pictures when you've done something!

See my room looks lolita and I didnt even try. Cause I have lots of plushies and such. My walls arent painted either but what you can do is go to your local lowes or homedepo and get a border. Its basically like wall paper but it only goes in one strip that you can put all around your room in a straight line it goes right under your ceiling on the wall. Mine has roses on it but you can probably get somting more gothic. My parents are strict aboput what I can put on my walls as well. Ushually if I want to put somthing up it has to go in a picture frame. But pictures arranged the right way in cool looking picture frames looks great. If that doesent work try getting some kind of sticky tac that is safe for the walls and wont rip off the paint. Ushually the safe kind are like these double sided sticky foam squares. The gooey blue gum like tac probably will rip off the paint on your walls but it ushually does fine on doors. But another big way to accessories your room is with plushies and other trinkets. You can try getting a shelving unit to put plushies and statues and books or anything else. Plushies arent that hard to come by dolls work too. Gotic type ones you can probably get at hottopic or online. Plushies look good on your bed too. Another crafty idea is a lamp. You can get a really cheap lamp and accessorise it. They sell plain lamp shades at craft stores and you can add stickers or frills or even paint it if you like. If your 2nd floor is already haloween themed trying adding other things with the colors like black, red, and purple. There are lots of ideas for little things you can get at craft stores. And dont worry about it my parents are crazy too

If you're going to get dolls to decorate your room with, I would suggest not getting ones from Hot Topic, unless you're going for a specific character. Most of what they sell by way of dolls (The Living Dead Dolls, I believe is what you're referring to) is too grotesque and overdone by way of dark for a good lolita feel. A traditional doll with a crack across it's face is sweet and melancholy, but most dolls designed to look evil... well, you might like them but I think they're trying to hard to be creepy dolls and missing the point.
Plus they are horribly overpriced.
But that's just my opinion. You might not even want to go the gothic route anyway. A collection of dolls (even Barbies, really) can work for any kind of lolita.
Check online auctions, you're sure to find a used doll or two for a decent price just yearning for some attention after all these years.

I recommend visiting your local goodwill or thrift store. Ignore me if this has already been suggested.

I've found some great Victorian decorations at my Goodwill. I got a silver teapot for four dollars and a tray to put it on for a dollar. Old porcelain dolls would work nicely, and take a look at the housewares for nice quilts and furniture like vanities and rocking horses that people have given to the centre.

Ross has some GREAT Victorian-esque pieces like trunks and boxes and comforters, and nothing there is overpriced. If you venture on over to the section with dishes, you'll always be able to find cute flowery, Victorian teapots and cups and the like.

Don't worry about doing it all at once. Being low on cash AND redecorating at the same time can be hard. Buy your stuff piece by piece and in six months to a year, it will have all paid off.

Well, Victorean Maiden sells lolita furniture and such so that is the best source if you are looking for inspirations for your room. Mainly lolita-themed rooms use gothic like furniture but also some use coffin pillows and such so there is much place for own ideas.

My dream is to buy a huge length of pink chiffon
and drape it along the top of the wall (where it meets the ceiling)
in deep swoops and swags... like a princess' room!
And maybe I'd make giant bows at the spot where each of them gathers.

Yes I am slightly insane.

Anywhat, all of my plans involve fabric and not paint...
so it's totally not permanent at all and can be changed as one desires.

Thanks so much to all of you for your suggestions! Unfortunately, i won't be decorating my room lolita after all. I got into the college I wanted to go to (squee!), but that means moving out of the house...(which means no decorating for me (aw...)). I have managed to populate my room with plushies, though!

For college dorms, they don't let you do squat unless it's temporary, but there's still a lot you can do! Usually thumbtacks are okay, if not, suction cups on windows will hold these up!

If you can place a discreet ceiling hook, you can even do this with an Ikea bet netting.

Also, rugs and blankets can add a lolita-like charm to an otherwise boring dorm.

My room isn't very loli, but its me. I am a gothic-type kinda person, but it doesn't stop me. I have a small glass vase filled with dead white and red roses (the white ones were from my Graduation ceremony and the red ones my dad gets my mom every year for their anniversary) I have alot of band posters/pictures up, basically the whole room is wall-papered with pictures or posters. My bedding is kind of elegant... I have a book shelf with anime and stuff in it. I like art, so i have my own paintings up on my walls. I also have black beading hanging from one of my walls in low swoops. I don't have very elegant curtains, just a denim one with a blue plaid blanket over the top (i have to sleep in a dark room XD) and i have a doll from *yes* Hot topic. But it was clearence, and the doll isn't one of the ones they carry now (i will post a piccie below) I guess that i could say make your room how elegant or whatever you like. Some people go with a lolita look, while other's like to be their selves. Just make sure whatever you go with makes YOU feel confortable. ^_^

Piccies now~
