Alexandre Dumas is a French author from the 18th century that wrote:
Charles VII at the Homes of His Great Vassals Othon l’archer The Fencing Master Georges The Nutcracker (a revision of Hoffmann's story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, later adapted by Tchaikovsky as a ballet) The Black Tulip The Wolf-Leader The Gold Thieves The Companions of Jehu Robin Hood The Whites and the Blues The Last Cavalier The Count of Monte Cristo The Regent's Daughter The Two Dianas
the D'Artagnan Romances: The Three Musketeers Twenty Years After The Vicomte de Bragelonne, sometimes called "Ten Years Later"
the Valois romances La Reine Margot La Dame de Monsoreau The Forty-Five Guardsmen
the Marie Antoinette romances: Joseph Balsamo The Queen's Necklace Ange Pitou (a.k.a. Storming the Bastille or Six Years Later) The Countess de Charny Knight of the Red House
I've seen various film versions of The Three Musketeers, and one of The Count of Monte Cristo and The Man in the Iron Mask. They were all very good.
The Three Musketeers is the only one of Dumas' works that I've actually read. sweatdrop Athos was my favourite character. Ever notice how I usually like the calm characters? Anyway, the best line from the book was when Athos said to D'Artagnan, "I mistrust women. I especially mistrust blonde women." Because I'm blonde, I was offended at first, but then I started laughing for a full, good minute. lol
The films aren't much like the book, particularly the newest rendition, but I still enjoyed it...Probably because I watched it BEFORE reading it, so I wasn't hard to please! xd
I might read The Count of Monte Cristo someday since I imagine Edmund Dantes' thoughts of revenge must be fascinating. Wolf-Leader and Nutcracker would likely entertain me also. smile

Got my copy of The Three Musketeers, and I'll probably read it before year-end. I really really want to read The Count of Monte Cristo as well. I thought the movie was rather awesome which, if my experience is anything to go by, likely means the book is ten times as awesome.
