Okay, this is our first year for indoor drumline [Well first year with having Mr. Lunt as our band director]

Turns out I didn't get to play tenor like I wanted to. So I'm in the bell section. That kind of turned me off because I'm not doing to well with it and we dont have the type of bells you can march with.
I guess I'll stick with it.

But does anyone know anyways to get me more enthusiastic about playing the bells/xylophone, or to like it more?

Also, Me and the bells section leader thought about starting up a fundraiser so we can get the marchable bells.
Any suggestions into how to get that done and what things we should sell. It is rather hard to do two fundraisers for band. One for the Spring Trip [costs $500] and to get marchable bells.

Need an example of what I'm shooting for?

xd We have a REALLY old set of marching bells, the ones that you had to use straps to hold up. Man, that thing must be uncomfortable as hell.

The thing I would suggest is finding music sheets for bells with songs that you know or are familiar with. Say if you're into anime and games, you can pick up a TON of music sheets for marimba or something and play all kinds of anime and Final Fantasy. A few of our Pit people play the Harry Potter song a lot, too. So once you play songs for fun, then you can learn how to play your instrument just for fun.

If all else fails, PM me. My friend plays a lot of songs on marimba, and if I ask him I can probably find a place for you to get some music biggrin

Well, I do tenors in the summer and mallets in the winter (marimba this winter) you just kinda need to find the nitch for it where the challenges are. They both are a ton of fun... i agree with what NachManLance said... find something you like to play. get something you can really rock out to!

well frist off u might wanna know the best drummer in my school is in pit playing bells. THAT'S RIGHT OUR DRUM CAPTION IS A PIT PERSON. he was on tenors last year but when we got a hard hard bell part this year he told everyone he'd give up his spot to a lower player to make sure the bells got played right cause they were so important and it's his senior year. bells is nothing to frown at and i know i've marched and played pit. our caption has even played snare in a drum core and told us the bells were the hardest thing he ever played. and if ur loooking to earn money check out the local fund raiser esp. cookie dooh it's a big seller if u can find it. hope it helped and good luck.

Thanks a bunch. I'm inspired to stick with the bells.
I'm also self teaching myself the piano, I'm sure that could help me out with bells.

I've also run into another problem. I've signed up for Driver's Ed. Sadly it takes place the same time as Drumline on certain days. I have drumline on Tues and Thurs, while Driver's Ed is usually every day of the week [the snow days kinda screwed things up aswell]
Drumline is from 2:15-3:40pm While Driver's Ed is from 2:30-5:45pm. I'm not alloud to miss ANY driver's Ed otherwhise I wont be alloud to drive. Also according to Maryland Laws, After this year, all persons who are bellow 18 years of age wont be alloud to drive until they are 18. So this is the last chance I have of getting a permit then a lisence. I'm 15, and will be 16 in March.

I guess I might end up missing 4 practices. Does anyone have suggestions for me to keep me from getting rusty? I dont have any bells of my own, I'm sure I could borrow some mallets from the school.

Playing Bells isn't all that bad. I'd been stuck in Pit for my first two years of Marching Band, and this last year, I'd been lucky enough to actually get into the Drum Line. In which I now regret.

If you find someone that is REALLY good with either the bells, or xylophone, or even the maremba. Then watch them.

We had this one guy, who was insane on the Maremba ~_~ 3 sticks for each hand.

But, what I'm trying to get at, is watch some people that are insane with bells, etc. Usually you're like... Wow, that's pretty friggin wicked. I want to do that, too!

And you start practicing away, and it actually starts getting fun. ^^

Not sure if that helps at all o-o Or if it made sense. =) But you should be excited.
