Any elf that wants to enter buys a ticket by sending 100 gold to Elf on a Bookshelf. At the end of the month, a random drawing is done to determine which of the elves that entered win ALL of the participating elves’ money and the 300 gold that Elf on a Bookshelf always contributes to the pot. For example, if 5 elves send 100g to enter the lottery, then one of them wins 800g by the end of the month (500g from the elves that entered and 300g from Elf on a Bookshelf.) All elves that participate in the lottery earn points.

This month there are eclipses on the 7th of July in Cancer and on the 21st of July in Capricorn that seem to be affecting most signs.

Aries Mar 21 - Apr 19

New family of eclipses will be starting up. The first one will have the power to create dramatic shifts in your career and the second will be strong enough to bring big news in regard to real estate, home, or family matters.

Taurus Apr 20 - May 20

In the months ahead, get ready to get much more use out of your suitcase than you have in a long time. The eclipses are back, and the two that are due in July will be very friendly. These lunar and solar events will coax you to explore the world outside your door, and it will have long-range effects in the two years to come.

Gemini May 21 - June 20

Your financial picture is changing this month, thanks to the arrival of two eclipses. The eclipses have not been in these signs since 2000 and 2001, so it's been a long time since you've seen such a dramatic emphasis on money matters. There's no reason to worry, however - these eclipses could be your friends.

Cancer June 21 - July 22

July could well be your landmark month of 2009 for it heralds the start of a new family of eclipses in Cancer and your opposite sign of Capricorn. Often life events take place at eclipse time. You may hear of friends getting married, buying a house, having a baby, or other big events, and in your life, you may have a big life event, too. If you've needed a reason to take a big step, the eclipse will provide it.

Leo July 23 - Aug 22

Eclipses test the strength of our resolve and of our relationships. They question our motivations, courage, determination, and goals. The interesting part of life is that it is not the set of circumstances that you are given that matters, but your response to them. If you are thinking of getting engaged or are about to sign a contract, you may want to do a credit and background check on your proposed partner as a precaution.

Virgo Aug 23 - Sept 22

Career, friendship, travel, and love are all on the agenda in this busy month, and with two eclipses coming up, life is about to change dramatically in the area of love and relationships. You have a lot on your agenda! Your very best day to spontaneously pack and go would be July 7, thanks to a lovely beam from Mars to Uranus.

Libra Sept 23 - Oct 22

You are about to see some massive changes at home and in your career. If you are honest with yourself, you will admit that you feel you've come to master your present life just fine and you are up for a new adventure. You need change, and that's precisely what the universe is about to bring you.

Scorpio Oct 23 - Nov 21

If you are getting ready to go to college or graduate school, the eclipse will allow you to adapt to a whole new lifestyle. You will like the change. All month your creativity will be strong, but doubly so near the eclipse July 21. Use this wonderful energy or lose it!

Sagittarius Nov 22 - Dec 21

This month will bring important changes to your finances. The eclipses is in Capricorn and Cancer are both signs that hold sway over your money houses. All sorts of questions will be analysed from how you earn your money, to how you save it and spend it.We have not had eclipses in these signs since 2000 and 2001, so this influence will be fairly new.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 19

You, of course, will be at the center of all that is going on because the eclipses are highlighting your sign. Saturn, your ruler, will give you the opportunity to stabilize your life in a way you may never have been able to accomplish before this. Pluto in Capricorn at one degree, considered a forceful and energetic degree, gives you power and authority. The world is now your oyster!

Pisces Feb 19 - March 20

Stars align perfectly in every way, especially in regard to romance. The universe wants to reward you on a major scale, and you won't have to wait long to see the proof of this! The new set of eclipses will emphasize your private life, helping you make it richer and much more satisfying.
