Emily awoke with a jolt. She was terrified. It was the last month of school and the Home Coming Dance was coming up. She had no date and planned not to go. Her father encouraged her to though, which was what made her go.
Emily walked into the gym with a sad sigh. Everywhere she looked people had a partner, except for her. She looked towards the stage, and saw him. Devon Thomas. She had loved him since third grade, when he kissed her while they were up the apple tree by the elementary school. She sighed and looked down at her dress.

>She didn't love the dress, but she didn't hate it. She went to a table and sat down, not sure what to do now. None of her friends were there and so she had no one to talk to or dance with. She gazed at Devon for a while before she ran out in tears. He didn't even know her anymore. Ever since he became a football player and popular. She sat down on the bench in the school courtyard.
She heard the students all file out, indicating that the dance was over. She went back into the gym and sat down at a table again. She knew the DJ, he was one of her cousins. So he allowed her to stay while he put his gear away. She started to leave when she heard footsteps. She turned around and saw him.
