1: The obvious step promptly stated many times: when you brush your teeth, DO NOT leave the water running! I don't even understand why people do leave the water running. All you have to do is put the drain stopper in, run a little water, and spit in that. You don't have to keep the water running when you brush.
2: The next obvious step: take shorter showers people! If you're a girl, and you have to shave you legs, I suggest using a wet wash cloth to dampen your legs and then shaving creme-they do sell cheap bottles ya know? But really, whenever you get in the shower, all you really have to do is wash you body and hair and then you're down, right?
3: If you must take longer showers to fulfill vain concerns, try installing a low flow shower head. They're at most Home Depots and they're pretty easy to install as well.
4: Use a water filter on your tap water. Why go out and buy bottled water when you can purify tap water just as easily? You wouldn't have to go through as much money and then there wouldn't be any plastic bottles that are easy to forget to recycle.
5: Okay people, why let a faucet continue to leak? Fix it when you see it! Or get somebody to. You can lose so much water by that one little leak. If you fix it when you see it, you'll save lots of water! And that's what this forum's about, right?
Well, those are five simple steps to preserve water. Hope you learned something ^^

freddie07 Summers are getting really harsh here in NZ. Several years ago, there were T.V ads made promoting water conservation, there were those that 'We Lie Awake-Breakdown-' has already mentioned, and there was one regarding going to the toilet (bathroom). The slogan was: "If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down." I thought it was quite witty, and a great way to promote awareness.
Lol I know, right? I do that at my house, but my fam complains. =-=" Urine is sterile! >O And technically it's water, so...HA. 8D
Great advice. I could never understand why people let the water run when they brush their teeth! I grew up brushing teeth with a cup of water at my side to rinse after I'm done brushing. 8D Saves so much water. My mum taught me to do that, too. Yay~ whee
So cool that you live in NZ, freddie!
