Okay, so here's a question: does anyone know how to make Vista allow .gif images as backgrounds?
I'm trying to get a pic to set on my desktop with this little person and he doesn't move on the desktop the way he does in the file... I used to know how to do it, but the Vista settings are all different and I can't seem to figure it out.
Discuss, if you wanna: -Retards who can't operate their PCs -That damn Vista -Why I shouldn't be allowed to touch machinery of any sort -Anything else computer-issue-related
Edit: Well, my question's been answered, but anyone with questions can post here... and anyone who wants to b***h about that damn Vista can do so here too... Or a mod can lock it if they care to.

Vista doesn't allow .gif images as backgrounds, because they pose a "security threat".
Yeah. I can't work that one out either.
The only way to have an animated background is either with Windows Dreamscene (assuming you're in Vista Ultimate Extra) or by buying Stardock's Dreamscape program.

XxStephasaurusxXxRexxX Or a mod can lock it if they care to. We'll see where it goes.
I, however, have had Vista for nearly two years now and have seen no drastic issues that people claim comes with Vista.... I had many more issues when I had XP.

I'm on Windows 7 now, and it's brilliant. No .gif support, but the slideshow background feature more than makes up for it. biggrin

Well, I needed a computer to hold my drawings and school assignments, so I misered out and just got a little Compaq with Vista preloaded on it... I think I may have to change to XP or something that I... y'know... actually know or like. Or some junk.

Or, you could download a Linux CD.
You can get a free alternative on Linux for 90% of the software that you have to buy for Windows.
Obviously, most games are out of the window thanks to Microsoft patenting the .EXE file format and no one developing mainstream games for Linux (I dunno why, OpenGL is so much more powerful than DirectX).
biggrin

Vista isn't that different from XP as far as basic usage goes.

@ Bass: I've never used Linux in my life... I'd be interested to learn, but also intimidated.
@ Waku: It's just different enough to make me crazy. I've been using XP for years and years...

I used XP for forever too... whee
I guess it's just personal preference. I like a lot of the changes Vista made. Now computers with XP make me all xp

Just got a laptop with Vista. I have to say, I don't see what all the griping has been about. Not that I've tried to put much on it, but from what I've seen it's just fine. Works a little different, sure. But if I can't figure something out, well... that's what the internet's for!
Also I'm a graphic artist, so, yeah. Shiny graphics? = Happy Paul.

@ Waku: I just... I like Vista for some things, and prefer XP for the rest.
@ Paul: Oh my god, I tried to access my DA page from my mom's computer and the combination of her lame screen and shitty graphics card made me almost cry when my work loaded. I love my laptop for that, at the very least.

And she was all, "gtfo my computer, then. Quietly."

I'm going to throw out there that I've used Vista a little. It doesn't seem too bad.
But I love my Windows XP. I'm not going to upgrade, but when I get a new laptop I'll be content to figure out Vista. I just kinda go with the flow.
