There's been like 4-5 times where I'm working on art piece and my computer crashes with BSOD and I lose my work.
What happens to you after you've lost a piece of art you've been working so hard on? Do you go back to it/an old WIP and start again or do you scrap it all together?
Usually for me, (if someone has commissioned me the piece), I won't go back and draw it all again. I just hate doing it because it won't come out looking good like the first time and I just have the stigma of not starting from SQ 1 all over again.
I'm sure this has happened to other people. O:
Share your unfortunate experiences and WIPs of pieces you didn't feel like returing to. O:

 the cow says:happened to me a million times on my last virus inhabited comp....... get the blue screen of death every time i'm in middle of a art..... sometimes i get so into it that i forget to save every couple of mins or so..... but the one upside to redoing a pic is that usually the second time around the pic looks better lol

!2ice the cow says:happened to me a million times on my last virus inhabited comp....... get the blue screen of death every time i'm in middle of a art..... sometimes i get so into it that i forget to save every couple of mins or so..... but the one upside to redoing a pic is that usually the second time around the pic looks better lolOmg, my comp is so bad now, maybe it has viruses like yours. I get random BSOD all the time, then I wanna cry. D; And you think so? I don't think I've ever gone back to a piece I've lost but if you improve 2nd time round, maybe it's good to try it. XD <33 I never thought of it that way.

 the cow says:i think its because the second time around you notice mistakes and stuff so when you're doing it over you tend to improve more 3nodding

That happened to me several times, mainly because I was using a bootleg version of oC4... xD;; I usually just go back to the old WIP and hope it turns out better. Sometimes, though, the file gets so corrupt that I can't open it... and then I just give up. OTL

Yeah that happened to me on my old computer, yet I still don't know what was wrong with it. I would freeze for a minute and just reload by itself, It kept doing that to me with this picture. I eventually got tired of working on it and so it just sits in my pile of unfinished work. ~ 3~;;

Aw, man, Chise, and it's turning out so well. x_x;
My operating system is OSX, so I don't get the BSOD, but sometimes I do forget to save and then an error occurs with Corel. Depending on how far into the pic I was, I just walk away for a little while to cool down, then come back to try to assess the damage. XD

when we first moved to this house, the wiring in the garden was done in such a way that some rain, or us touching the switch, would result in a total blackout, thus me losing everything on photoshop. luckily I've learned to save things like every five minutes, so the files are always there, just not the things last done. but I just don't understand why adobe has a filesave in indesign en illustrator when they crash, but not in photoshop. O_O;

i save alot so things like that usually don't happen to me. not with art atleast. have had some bad experiences with word though. deleted the whole thing from my memory stick stressed more than 5 hours of work about israel. guh, i was about to cry, and it was supposed to be finished for school the next day. then i lost all my notes about sex pistols for my english. but that was allright cuz somehow i had memorized the whole sex pistols page on wikipedia.
what bugs me when i'm drawing is that i draw on the wrong layer all the time, that is annoying, especially when i've saved it.

Its happened to me before, I continued from an older version I had, but naturally was disseminated at the end cause it didn't look as good as it did the first time : ( But it was a commission for someone so had no choice but to do it.

Ultimately I get very upset, especially when it's a piece where I spend more than 4-5 hours plus.
In the end... I can't do much about it, so I might as well make the remake more fun by boozing on a bottle of wine while going at it again. It loosens me up enough to not be so a**l over the hard parts.

That just happened to me, the file for one of the commissions I was working on got corrupted somehow a few days ago. My fault, I should have taken the necessary precautions and saved it twice on two different files, but what is done is done. It's just gone. It was in its coloring stage and I was really really happy with it too, I had put all my heart into it. I didn't have the guts to tell the girl who commissioned it what happened. She paid me real money for it and she was really excited about it, so I'm going to act professionally and start it all over. I tried for a whole day to find ways to recover it, but it's just dead forever. crying Who knows if the second try will come out as pretty as the first one was.

Happens very often for me, unfortunately. I have a really s**t, old computer. It crashes a lot, and despite me going through the process of learning rootkit, malware, and virus removal/detection/whatever, I still can't avoid it being unharmed. So, once it crashes, it crashes hard. We usually have to reformat once every other month and I lose everything. So, I've learned to deal with constant stress.
Most recently was a commision from back in December. When I do commisions, I usually go through 5 or so pictures before I get one I like. I had finally come up with a good concept sketch and was just starting the colouring phase when I lost everything on my computer. This was like, 4 months after the start, so now I'm panicing [regardless of how awesome said commisioner is being] and have only just managed to get a good sketch going again D:

 ......Oh lord, I hate that so much! It makes me insanely mad. usually I just lose a ......couple steps, rarely the whole piece, but it sucks to have to go back and try ......to do it again. I usually just have to take a break from the art piece and ......come back to it later.
