My favourite piece by him is Annabel Lee; it's such a beautiful poem, and not quite as sad as many of his works. At least, I personally see an uplifting note in it even though it involves death.
A Tell Tale Heart is the short story that I liked best of his because it's delightfully creepy, and I can practically feel the man's tension as I'm reading it!
I don't like The Raven at all, and I can't understand what the obsession over that one is about.

A Tell Tale Heart is my favorite also. I loved Annabel Lee.
The Bells got kinda annoying after I read it and I can't stand The Raven. The Black Cat was good, but I think I might've been scarred from it for life. I don't usually do well with gore and all that.
The Cask of Amontillado made me laugh. I was slighly disturbed, but I enjoyed it! (: I did not like The Pit and the Pendulum. It freaked me out. Hehe.
I think I hit on every story or poem I have read by him.

The Fall of the House of Usher is another good one. Its a short ghost story. I like Edgar Allen Poe and HP Lovecraft alot, considering that Lovecraft looked up to Poe and came soon after, it makes sense.

That one is pretty freaky, but I don't dislike it. That one and A Tell Tale Heart are my mum's faves.
I've never heard of Lovecraft, Showren, but his name is very cool, and that's very interesting to know about him. I'll look him up later.

Poe is my homeboy! Seriously, I'm from the Baltimore area, I know where his grave is. I love his writing style - it practically draws pictures in the air while you're reading. His creepy stuff is brilliant, but there's this one story that I particularly like to read that isn't actually creepy at all - it's a description of a perfect garden kept by a crazy bazillionaire who doesn't want any reminder of death around him - including fading blossoms or withered leaves. I have to look up the name of the story, because I'm blanking. But essentially it's just a boat ride with glowing golden descriptions of the perfect idyll. It's like a mini-vacation!

That poem sounds pretty; let me know what it's called!

I love Edgar Allan Poe, and actually his story, The Tell-Tale Heart was the first thing I ever read thanks to my older brother reading it for school. My brother used to then read to me and with me from his collection of Poe stories and poems. It's sort of our bonding thing and the reason why I enjoy reading and writing so much.
My favorite stories are The Fall of the House of Usher and The Cask of Amontillado (which I have made into a graphic novel interpretation for a school project before).
As for his poems, the first one that jumps to mind is of course The Haunted Place, Sonnet - to Science and then The City in the Sea. I also enjoy The Bells, mainly because I got to sing a version of that poem in choir once and since I'm a soprano I had some really high and fun parts ^_^ so now I can't help but hear that song everytime I read it. And yes, I enjoy the Raven, though I can't say it's one of my all time favorites.
