HELP I have a percussionist with the hugest ego ever. Also he can't play the drums to save himself in a dark alley. He also he is always triple forte when it needs to be piano and the melody is drowned out. HELP do you have any suggestions.

I had someone like that in my section, i laughed at him when he was trying to be the big man and when he asked why i was laughing, i told him he was 4 years old and he was holding his sticks wrong. xp also i told him that if he didn't shut up i would throw a stick at his head. he kept talking. i threw a stick at his head. he didn't like that. everyone else laughed. (note: that one only works if you actually will throw a stick at someones head.)

hide his sticks, trust me i have to spend days looking for mine when i was the last one to have them so id hate for someone else to put them somewhere

Hate it when someone loves the sound of his own drum more than the sound of the line. ...those people dont deserve sticks...

What does he play? If he's a snare, he has reason to play loud. Snares can do whatever they want. Trust me.

Dude, Snares have no "reason" to play loud. Fact is snares are usually section leaders and should be most disciplined and should be the best in the line.
And with the kid that sucks at playing here are your options:
If it is a large band:
Kick him off the line.
Publicly humiliate them.
Call em out to a drum off.
If it is a small band:
Throwing sticks at them.
Publicly humiliating them.
Just get everyone to not talk to them. If he tries talking then just interrupt him and continue with your original conversation.

I had a guy like that smile I just called him out to a drum off in front of everyone. He quit bragging after that.

Throw your sticks at him.
Or better yet, throw a cowbell at him because he has to catch that, or it will do serious damage. Catching prevents him from playing.
We had a kid like that. But then he switched to trumpets. Now our trumpets blare. Hm, I wonder why...?

I know this is going to sound cliche, but don't get pissy, don't get bitchy (haha...that rhymed) but just explain, with stern tone in your voice, that he needs to CHILL. Just be like, "Dude, no one gives a rats a** how good you are or how good you aren't. No one cares that you lift your sticks so high above your head, that we can see you armpit hairs! Just play the music. And do us all a favor, play the MUSIC, not the notes or the rhythms." (If you haven't noticed....I have dealt with these kind before.) He just needs to realize that the band is bigger and more important than his huge ego.
