Anyways-- Has anyone else noticed this? With popular culture, it is now 'cool' to be Gay/Bi. All the girlxgirl or guyxguy celeb pairings that have been so 'graciously' covering the front of tabloids such as PEOPLE and different internet sites and ads. And it's not just the celebrities, I've noticed it in other places, to. Now, being gay or bi is a trend. I don't know how prominent it is in some places, but it's just starting to aggravate me on a certain level-- People acting gay/bi just because it's 'cool', not because they really are. Why?? I mean, it makes no sense!! neutral

I agree. It's retarded! Sexuality is sexuality, there's nothing "cool" or trendy about it. Saying a specific one is cooler than the other is just the worst. So now, you're going to have all these self-esteem hungry jackasses are going to run around saying they're gay, and when something goes wrong like, oh I don't know, they realize they're NOT gay, it's just going to make it more difficult for the gay community. Believe it or not, there are still a s**t ton of people who believe that gay/bi is a choice. People pulling stuff like that is just stupid. Experiment, but don't just declare it to be "cool." scream

This is why the term 'Bi-Curious', however shallow it might sound, comes in handy.
True, sexuality isn't a choice. It's something you're born with, no matter who you are attracted to. No one can say 'Oh, I'm Gay/Bi' One day and say 'Oh! I'm really straight, that was just a phase,' the next. It not only makes them look like fools, but makes it harder for those in the LBGT community to get equal footing. That's why the term 'Bi-Curious' was coined, to label those who were publicly experamenting, but were still fundementaly straight.
Still, the idea that some attention-seeking...individuals seem to think that just because they have human arm-candy of the same gender as them makes them Cool socially is shallow, demeaning, and kind of cruel to the one dating them. After all, if I was dating another girl, and it turned out that I was just a fun 'Bi' fling with someone, I'd be pissed.

I know about the whole Bi-Curious stand of things, and I don't mean anything in that context. I mean when someone who follows trends declares themselves gay/bi because it's what's 'in' or 'cool'. You're right when you say that it's cruel, shallow, and demeaning. It's one of these things in society that's really starting to bug me now, y'know?

I've noticed this too. In my school mostly every one is going around saying their Bi and gay when all they want is attention. It has something to do with fads and it annoys the hell out of me and I've been Bi along time and I've fought for gay rights along time and now that it's a trend and every ones "Gay" the efforts for gay rights are taken lighter because people view it as a trend. .......... It's so frustrating .......

When you see my face, hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell. Mod note: Howdy! I moved your threat to Rant and Rave. :] Is all good.
Anyway, this topic interests me! I've dated like, three dudes who thought they were bi, and after dating me for a few days, were like, oh, hey, I just realized that I was confused! Ugh. It's frustrating, but at least I'm helping people identify themselves, amirite?
People tend to be interested in my sexuality and less in me, which is why I'm wary of 'bisexual' people or 'bicurious.' It's probably stars like Lindsay Lohan and Tila Tequila who get girlfriends that trends start. And a few people I've dated, they thought they were bi because they had just been broken up with by someone and assumed that the problem was with them and was obviously because they were gay. Not that, y'know, their relationship just didn't work out. Again, ugh.
When you walk my way, hope it gives you hell, hope it gives you hell.

Oh yes, I've noticed it for quite some time now that being bisexual, bi curious, or gay or whatever becoming a trend. I'm know for sure that I'm straight, but I still fight for gay rights and find out that they're the most fun people to be around, but once it started becoming a trend it just infuriated me.
I get the whole bi curious thing, that's fine for me, but now everyone at my school is gay because it's the cool thing to be. I really don't know what to add because previous posts have already stated what's in my mind and I don't like repeating stuff sweatdrop
But yes, it's annoying to me too, because when actual seriousness comes up, the 'higher ups' will only take it as a trend and therefore, it'll be unfair to the real GLBT people
