			            SO...hi guild o uo~ -waves-
My mom god me a really pretty set of craft knives today as a late birthday present, because she knows how much I loves me some papercraft <3
But there's so many knives, I was wondering what other fun shenanigans they can be used for o 3o I'd hate t let them gather dust, and I"m always up for learning how to do new things 8D

xD... I use them for all sorts of stuff... but mostly for craft related things?
I used them a LOT for 3D design classes where we had to do a lot of cardboard/foamboard cutting... they're also handy for cutting odd shapes and just making nice cuts in thicker materials in general :3~~ I usually bring one to conventions when I go to them and never fail in using it while I'm there...

The different types of blades have different uses. I tended to use a wide range of carving type blades back when I was sculpting doll heads.

I mainly use them for cutting foam board sweatdrop
I also use them to get rid of boredom waiting for a page to load online> Basically I use them to smooth the edges on my wooden desk.
But yeah, opening packages, making pretty fruit flowers (Although I wouldn't advise it... even though I'm putting it down on here), hacking at some newspaper out of bordom or stress. I guess anything that requires small sharp knives.

I use mine as well for 3D stuff you can use Bristol I made like tiny 3D cubes for school last year, To cut any picture down i will always use exactos. Just whenever you're using it to make 3D objects make sure you don't cut all the way through. It's hard to use those swivel ones if your following a pattern practice first with those. For safety measures always cut with a ruler and make sure all your fingers are on the ruler.

You could do pretty much any precise cutting wise with an x-acto. If you're into what would be considered vandalism you can cut pieces of different posters and rearrange them ( See: Poster Boy). There's mosaics with paper, collages, or performing surgery if needed. Not exactly the best ideas, and uses for an x-acto knife.

I've pretty much have given up on scissors all together and just use x-acto knives when cutting out projects, paperarts, or anything in general manner. <3
I find that the x-acto's tend to keep really clean edges, straight edges when needed not to mention they are a lot more handy when it comes to cutting heavier materials such as mat board, foam core, cardboard, cardstock and anything other than the regular construction paper and paper.
Downside is the ones I use are terrible at curves. The blade tends to move in a very line related motion versus forcing it to curve around in a circle.
With x-acto's and heavier materials you really have to have patience though with cutting. You can't just immediately jump in and hope that one cut will go all the way you usually have to continuously rework the same line over and over again to get a really neat clean cut. As well rulers are very valuable when attempting to cut straight lines -__- <--- notorious for really wobbly lines without it.
In Graphic Design we use x-acto's for all our projects including packaging design in which for our final design projects we would have to bring in the actual product in completed form for critique.
My blade of choice is #11.

Scratchboard. It's basically a thin piece of cardboard, covered in white china clay, then india ink, you scrape away the ink to create an image with the clay. It's amazing, but kind of confusing, 'cuz you're working dark-to-light.

Stars may be beautiful... I don't use my exactos nearly enough, (I don't even know how to write it, that's how infrequent I am. razz ) but I DID just get the greatest thing in history for Christmas. It's a ceramic knife thing with a teeeeeny little blade, but it works just as well as an exacto and never needs sharpening or replacement blades. I found it particularly spiffy and it'll save money. ;D ...But all they can do is shine.

To be honest I'm somewhat scared when using those knifes. But I do tend to use it quite a bit, mostly for my design class (framing and such). It's rather new to me and my hands shake so it often jerks in another direction... scary! I don't use them much for that reason... and I've heard quite a few horror stories too. gonk Also I need a cutting mat too so I quit digging holes in the table.
