What sorts of bookmarks do you use? Pretty ones, common ones, or do you stick to scraps of paper? Are there any that you won't use?

I usually memorize the page number. Or if it is a library book, I'll use the library receipt as a bookmark. ^_^ But any bookmarks I get usually fall apart by the end of the first book used, or I forget to use them. sweatdrop

I usually use a leaf. I like to press pretty leaves inside books to preserve them, and using them as bookmarks happened as a result. ^_^

I like HP bookmarks, fancy emblazoned bookmarks, and I have this one magnet bookmark that I've been using for 7 years. Most the picture on it has rubbed off.

I either use a scrap of paper (with pictures and bubble letters randomly written on there by my friends), a library card in the back of books to tell you when they are due, or I have this fancy HP one with the mirror of Erised scene on it! (James!!!!!) biggrin

I have a large collection of bookmarks. You know how many libraries, bookstores, schools, and tourist gift shops give out dcorative bookmarks for free during the holidays, or when you purchase a book from them? I've got LOADS of those! Plus, I've bought a few really nice ones, like LotR, HP, and the Irish Claddaugh.
Normally, I only use the cheap ones because they have a pretty side and a plain white side. Expensive ones are illustrated all over. When I get tired, I hold the plain white side underneath each line of the page while I'm reading because my lazy eye acts up when I'm sleepy. If there is a decoration underneath the words, it distracts me. I've used those bookmarks so much that the "white" side on most of them is now grey-ish. xd
I refuse to use the ones that hold the pages like a paperclip open to the page you're on because those tend to rip the edges of the pages. I don't use wooden bookmarks either because they're so thick that they cause the binding to stretch. Don't damage the books! evil

I'm a bookmark whore. I love them! I buy them like crazy and lose them even faster! My favorite is a thin metal strip one with a long shiny blue ribbon with glistening beads attached to it. It makes the book appear like some ancient tome with those beautiful ribbons and beads hanging out of it.
But back to the losing thing. I lose them! All the time! I don't know how but I do, so as a result I will use just about anything as a book marker. I have even dog eared the pages on occasion. Yes yes, gasp in horror all you want my dears, it will not break me of my evil habits! lol
I've been guilty of using a square of toilet paper (unused of course wink ), post it notes, scraps of paper, my voter's registration card, a picture of my incredibly yummy stud muffin, my college library card, one of my flat hoop earrings, and even a strand of my hair. lol I have no shame when it comes to keeping my place! -blushes- Ok maybe a little, but not enough to change my evil ways! biggrin

Cricket, I'm guilty of using a strand of my hair or a toilet paper square also if I get a new book while I'm out, and have to wait until I get home to find a bookmark from the collection to use. xd You're right; the ones wth the ribbons are pretty. I like tassles too.
Dog-earring! Ahhh! *shields eyes*

I have a huge stack of bookmarks about 3 inches thick. I collect them. However, seeing as they are never around when I need them, I usually use paper, or random things that I can find.

I have several awesome bookmarks. One looks like an oriental rug, and it has a neat pattern on it. I also have a metal one that has a blue flower on the top. However, when I'm rushing to school and grabbing a book to read, I typically end up grabbing a sticky note or a strip of paper.

All of the above, some are kiddie ones bought at book fairs as a kid. Some animals, movies, etc. Sometimes scraps of paper. Some I made myself, whether drawn or printed.

I use the one's my school library has available at the front desk. I like the pictures so much that I have started collecting them. Especially when Halloween comes around and they have these 'scary' themed ones- I go nuts for those! xd
I've told my friend about it and how maybe one day the librarian is going to catch me grabbing more than one. But, I don't think it matters much since not many people really use them. They get one and they use that same one for the rest of the year.
When it comes to bookmarks I use the one that best fits the theme of the book. Like, if it's a classic I use this really pretty one that has a picture of a small girl who is holding a book. The painting is in old-style and below it, it say's: "Master the Art of Reading". Also, I have this other bookmark (which happens to be my favorite) that has a picture of a boy laying on the couch surrounded by books and reading while to one side of him is a TV covered in cobwebs. In big bold letters, to the side, it reads: "Books...the other channel."
I don't use anything else besides bookmarks. I always have one on hand in case I need to mark where I am.

I never have my bookmarks even when i most despratley need them gonk . I do have favorites though. I have four very cute bookmarks with funny sayings and fruit on them. And best of all the smiling cartoon fruits are *dramatic pause* SCRATCH AND SNIFF razz ! But like i said i can never find them sweatdrop . I read everywhere so everytime i take out my bookmark and start to read i get called away by something and when i get back to my book.....my marker is gone eek !!!! So scraps of paper are usually what i use for my pages.
