when i first saw him he pissed me off stressed . he just seemed like a Pathetic substitution 4 L......but in time i learned to love him. although he could NEVER! replace L

well i actually just started watching it and when i saw him yeah he made me mad because he just looked like a replacement. No one is better than L!

I always liked Near. He did make a pretty good L.

I was too busy missing L at first to care much about Near. However, after reading the series again, I decided that Near is his own character, and a good one at that. He's just not a replacement for L.
Personally, I find Mello and Matt more interesting. They're both very different from L.

Near... when he first came along, I was annoyed. Who really wants a replacement to L??? stare
But as the manga went on...I realized that he was... sufficient. I still like L, WAY better. 3nodding
And I never liked Mello, at all!!! scream

Well, I thought he looked awkward playing with a blank jigsaw puzzle (in the anime) but he seemed cute. Mello on the other hand took me a little while to accept.

but he proved very bad and lacked the 'L-ness' that was vital for Death Note

He was a very suitable replacement for L...
