I'm learning hirigana (and much more slowly katakana). I've found that flashcards work quite well, as do mnemonics. I'd like to combine the two. Anyone got any recommendations about flashcards? There are a few on the market now..
Also any tips on other methods you use to learn these would be great!
Once I've got hirigana and katakana down I'll need to move onto learning more kanji, so recommendations for those flashcards are welcomed too!
Arigatou gozaimasu!

On the market?
Can't you just make some? Write the kana on the front (straight out of any kana chart you might find online) and the romaji on the back, and just memorise them like that. No need to fork out a lot of money for it.
As for kanji, I wouldn't blitz on memorising those. If you're taking a course of some kind, just learn them as you're given them; otherwise, learn numbers, days of the week and a few basic words like eat, drink, look, person, listen, read, etc.

I have made some basic ones before, but as I said, I'm interested in mnemonics. Since I posted I've found a set with some catchy ideas. smile

Flashcards are definitely helpful.
There are a ton free flash-card based games (for hirigana, katakana, and kanji! ^_~) that you can find out there. I can't remember any off the top of my head... sweatdrop but they're out there! There are also sites dedicated entirely to mnemonics! Some of them will only give you a handful of words before you have to dole out cash, though. gonk
