He was my best, If not only friend. We had been through so much together. But now he's gone. I was there when he died, could have saved him. I keep thinking about whathe said to me that day...and how it changed my life...

"Don't let it get away!" Yusuke shouted as he quickened his pace. We were chasing a demon, an apperition of sorts, toward Downtown Mushiori City. Yusuke and Kurama had just cut the demon off, trapping it on an over pass while I tried to keep the idiot (Kuwabara) from getting hit by the passing cars.
The demon was strong, but not as strong as our cocky Spirit Detective. As usual, Yusuke wanted a "fun" fight so he let the fight drag out and didn;t kill the damn thing off. This apperition had also sparked something in Kurama, seeing as Kurama said he would be the one to take it out.
Whip after whip, Kuraman hit his mark, striking the demon in the chest over and over. Try as he may, the demon couldn't even get close to landing a blow, swinging his katana around with the grace of Kuwabara...enough said. The battle drug on, as the traffic began to pick up.
The driver was in a hurry. He swerved his sleek motorbike between the cars, almost running over Kurama. Kurama dodged the bike easly...right into the attack of the demon. The Demon heaved his sword forward, catching Kurama across the chest. Swinging the weapon like a baseball bat, he sent Kurama flying over the overpass railing.
"KURAMA!" Yusuke and I screamed. For a moment all i could do was watch Kurama's limp body bounce off the cars, landing in a pile in the over pass. I quickly, in a panic almost, run to his aid as Yusuke slayed the demon quickly.
Kurama looked like a scared puppy, the one that had been kicked too many times, so fragle and weak. He was laying there, blood pooling beneith him, matching the color of his hair. I knelt neck to him, whispering his name to call his attention back to me though his eyes where a bit glazed over.
"H-hiei?" He whispered, hardly able to speak. He reached for my hand and I took it, holding tight hoping it may keep him with me.
"Shhh...Rest now, Fox. Save your strength. We will talk when u are feeling better."
"I...I need to tell you something...now Hiei.."
"Kurama, I can barely hear you as is. Now rest"
"C-come closer...please, before i die..."
I did as he said, not thinking he would actually die. He had escaped death before, as Yoko. And he always seemed too strong and in control. Then He whispered to me, wincing.
"Hiei, you know the real reason...I'm always around u right?
"b-because we're friends?"
"No....no hiei...It's because I love you...don;t hate me...I'm sorry"
I was in shock. I wanted to say it would be ok and that I loved him too. Wanted to tell him i could never hate him. Yet the words just wouldn't come. So I settled for something better to get my point across. Something I'd seen humans do over and over and didn;t get it til now.
I kissed him.
I kissed him deeply and pulled away, the first tears I had cryed since I was a baby falling from my eyes as he passed on.

That kiss, my first and his last, meant so much. It still makes me angry that it took his death, losing him, to make me realize how much I loved him, as a friend and more. And as I stand here, at his grave, I pray that soon i will be able to love him as I do now.
Wait for me, My kitsune. I will join you when I can...
