Princess Kakyuu
She is the princess of Kinmoku, a fictional planet outside of the solar system. She is said to smell like the flowers of the Sweet Osmanthus, which are a recurring motif in her character design. The name of her planet is a pun on the name of these fragrant blossoms, which are called kinmokusei in Japanese--the suffix sei, when added to Kinmoku, means "planet" or "star." When Kakyuu first introduces herself, she calls her specific kingdom Tankei, a homonym of another word which also means the Sweet Osmanthus shrub. Kinmoku is also the home of the Sailor Starlights, who are Kakyuu's protectors and spend much of the story searching for her. The details of their collective story vary between the manga and the anime.
At some point before the story begins, Kinmoku is attacked and destroyed by Sailor Galaxia, leaving almost no survivors. Kakyuu herself travels to Earth and hides within an incense burner protected by a small child, ChibiChibi. Having lost contact with her, the Sailor Starlights follow behind, searching desperately. Kakyuu is injured in the battle with Galaxia, and cannot reveal herself until her wounds are healed. She travels to Earth because she senses the birth of the Silver Moon Crystal (which is an evolution of the original Silver Crystal) there. She is shown to have her own Senshi form, called Sailor Kakyuu, and reveals to Sailor Moon that her own lover had died in the war against Sailor Galaxia. Her uniform appears as a cross between her normal dress and the outfits worn by the Starlights, making it unique among all the Senshi. She eventually accompanies Sailor Moon to Zero Star Sagittarius to confront Galaxia, but is brutally killed by Sailor Chi. She dies in Sailor Moon's arms, saying that she wants to be reborn, maybe in a world without war, but at the very least to be with everyone again. Her body is then destroyed and her Sailor Crystal taken by a reanimated Sailor Venus, who has been revived along with the rest of the Sailor Team to serve Galaxia.
In the anime, no mention of battle-wounds is made, and her purpose in going to Earth is to find the "Light of Hope" and hide from Galaxia. During her time under Chibichibi's care, she is aware of the Sailor Starlights searching for her, but cannot reveal herself too soon. She finally emerges to save Sailor Moon and the others from a black hole and resumes leadership of the Starlights. The Starlights imply many times that, like Sailor Moon, Kakyuu has the power to restore a Phage to its original form. They claim that they have to kill them as that is all they can do with without her. This power is never shown. Not long after Kakyuu is found, Galaxia appears in battle and personally takes Princess Kakyuu's star seed. (Unlike the manga, Kakyuu never transforms into a Senshi form, although she is shown to have a "true star seed.") Kakyuu sets up a forcefield that is able to block Galaxia's attacks for a short time, but it does not save her. Before dying, Kakyuu sees in a vision that ChibiChibi herself is the Light of Hope. After Sailor Moon defeats Chaos, Princess Kakyuu is revived. She and her Starlights return to their home to rebuild and start over.
Sailor Starlights
The three share one name, Kou, which is always second when their full names are given. Because this is the location of the given name in Japanese order, it is usually assumed that they have different family names but one given name. "Kou" translates to "light," among other things, making the name "Three Lights" a pun.
The name "Three Lights" is taken from the Shinto concept of san hikari (literally "three lights"). These three lights are the sun, moon, and stars, each with a specific color and properties. The roses worn by the Three Lights while in concert correspond to these three colors: the sun is red (Seiya's rose), the moon is white (Taiki's rose), and the stars are yellow (Yaten's rose). The characters' titles as Senshi (Maker, Healer, and Fighter) may also be connected to the Hindu Trimurti: the creator, the preserver, and the destroyer.
In the manga, the Three Lights are an all-female trio who pose as male idol singers, but in the anime Sailor Stars they actually gained the bodies of males in their Earth forms, becoming women again in their Sailor Senshi forms.
According to Seiya in the anime, who explains their history to Usagi via musical telepathy, Sailor Galaxia attacked Kinmoku in force, with her Sailor Animamates creating an army of phage that swept over the planet. Sailor Star Fighter reveals that, without Kakyuu, the only way the Starlights had of protecting themselves was to kill the phage outright, which also kills the humans they were created from. Because of this, the Sailor Starlights initially go after phage on Earth with a killing intent. They are later dissuaded from this course after Eternal Sailor Moon demonstrates her ability to restore the phage to their human selves.
After Princess Kakyuu left Kinmoku to escape Galaxia's assault, Sailor Star Fighter, Star Healer, and Star Maker abandoned the planet to find her. No one else survived Sailor Galaxia's onslaught. The Starlights make references to the comrades they left behind in battle, possibly implying other Senshi who lost their lives on Kinmoku[citation needed]. The three also bring up their family and friends; however, the anime does not reveal any details on the three Senshi's Kinmoku families. The guilt of being the only survivors, of having lived by running away, and the search for redemption by saving their planet serve as the underlying themes for the Starlights through the course of the anime.
After escaping from Kinmoku, the Starlights were able to track Kakyuu to Earth and then Japan. The Starlights took male civilian forms - Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten - and became idol singers. They did this to attract as much attention as possible. Their music is embedded with a telepathic broadcast that the Princess (and later Usagi and Michiru) can feel, serving as a beacon to guide Kakyuu to them.
Sailor Galaxia
Sailor Galaxia (セーラーギャラクシア) emerges as Sailor Moon's strongest opponent in the manga Stars and its anime counterpart, Sailor Stars. She is the self-proclaimed "Golden Queen of Shadow Galactica" who directly commands the Sailor Animamates. She is also described as the Soldier of Solitude.[1] Her goal is to discover all the Sailor Crystals in the universe so that she can rule the universe unopposed. Galaxia's own crystal, the Saffer Crystal, is described as one of the most powerful Sailor Crystals in the galaxy. Its name is Old English for "sapphire," and the kanji applied to it in the text of the manga are 青金石 (seikinseki), meaning "lapis lazuli."
In the manga, Sailor Galaxia was born alone on a small planet she deemed "trash". She wandered alone until the day her powers awakened. But she had no purpose for herself, and felt that being just a Sailor Senshi was not enough; she craved something and she thought that was power. She left her planet in search of another place which she could call home. During her travels she came upon a bar, Chaos in the form of Wiseman, showed Galaxia what she was looking for—the Galaxy Cauldron. She discovered that in order for her gain control of the Galaxy Cauldron she had to gather the Sailor Crystals of all the Sailor Soldiers of the galaxy. Those powers combined together with that of Sailor Moon would give her the power to kill Chaos and rule the galaxy.
She then created Shadow Galactica and traveled to planet after planet turning them into places of death and stealing the star seeds of their guardian Sailor Soldiers. Her first conquest on Earth was to steal Mamoru's golden star seed right in front of Usagi's eyes; and after that, she and her minions stole the life force of each of the Sailor Soldiers on Earth until only Sailor Moon, Chibichibi and the Sailor Quartet were left. At the Galaxy Cauldron, Galaxia proceeded to battle them, until Chaos tried to kill Galaxia by blasting her off a cliff. Sailor Moon rescued her from falling over the cliff into the cauldron, and Galaxia finally realized that what she had always really wanted was love, not power. By accepting Sailor Moon's offer of friendship, the bracelets which supplied Galaxia with life and power shattered, and she died with a smile on her face.
In the anime, Sailor Galaxia once ranked as the legendarily strongest Sailor Senshi in the universe. The Sailor Wars pitted all of the Sailor Senshi against those who infringed on love and justice. Eventually, the Wars ended when Sailor Galaxia sealed the source of all malice, Chaos, within her body to save the cosmos. However, Chaos began to increase its power while it was sealed. Knowing her power put the entire universe at risk, Galaxia expelled her star seed into the rural galaxy of the Milky Way, where the newly born stars of love and justice resided.
With that her acts of free will came to an end. Now completely controlled by Chaos, Sailor Galaxia sought to steal all the star seeds in the universe to control it for herself in the name of "Star Galaxia". Among the planets she wrecked was the planet Kinmoku; the resident Sailor Soldiers and Princess Kakyuu managed to escape destruction and flee to Earth, the last place that Sailor Galaxia had not invaded.
In order to enter Earth, Sailor Galaxia did two things first. She broke the seal of Queen Nehellenia, in order to force the awakening of the soldier of silence, Sailor Saturn. Galaxia wanted Sailor Saturn to be ready for Galaxia to take all the star seeds of the Solar System. After Nehellenia was defeated by Sailor Moon and she was given a second chance at life, Galaxia began her plan. As Mamoru Chiba was flying to America to begin his studies, Galaxia attacked the airplane he was travelling in and stole his golden star seed. Once this was done, she sent her Sailor Animamates to find true star seeds belonging to Sailor Soldiers - in other words, Sailor Crystals. After numerous failures, Galaxia would kill most of her Animamates, and eventually confronted the Sailor Soldiers herself.
Galaxia first battled Princess Kakyuu, who had recently come out of hiding. While Kakyuu succeeded in holding a barrier against Galaxia for a time, she was eventually overpowered and killed. The Starlights, Guardian Senshi, and Outer Senshi each initiated their own plans of attack. The Starlights confronted Galaxia first, but before their star seeds could be taken, the Guardian Senshi teleported in to rescue them. During Galaxia's attempt to steal the star seeds of the Starlights, the Guardian Senshi intervened directly, protecting them from attack and dying so that their star seeds were stolen instead.
With the battered Starlights protecting Sailor Moon and Chibi Chibi, the Outer Senshi confronted Galaxia. Now Galaxia revealed her hand in releasing Nehellenia and forcing Saturn to mature. Galaxia offered the Outer Senshi a chance to serve her in exchange for their starseeds - an offer Uranus and Neptune accepted, killing Pluto and Saturn and then proceeding to hunt down the Starlights. With their own powers enhanced by Galaxia's power, Uranus and Neptune were able to overpower the Starlights, but turned on Galaxia at the last minute to try to take her starseed. Their attack failed since Galaxia had no starseed to take and the last two Outer Sailor Soldiers were killed.
The Starlights engaged in a final battle with Galaxia, teaming up with their attacks and managing to deal some damage to her before going down in defeat. Unlike most of the other characters, though, they are not killed. Galaxia crushed Sailor Star Fighter's hand and Sailor Star Yell with her heel before the Sailor Soldiers could try another assault, gloating that apart from the five in front of her - the three Starlights, Sailor Moon, and ChibiChibi - every other being in the galaxy had had their starseed removed. Sailor Moon tried to restore her to normal but her attack was stopped when Galaxia broke her scepter. In an attempt to defend the fallen Starlights, Eternal Sailor Moon's star seed was taken by Sailor Galaxia. Here, ChibiChibi's powers awoke revealing her to be the Light of Hope. She stops Galaxia's attack and restores Sailor Moon's star seed. Sailor Moon learns here that Chibi Chibi is the re-incarnation of Galaxia's star seed. Sailor Moon with her star seed becomes Princess Serenity and the Light of Hope transforms into the Sword of Sealing, which she asks Serenity to use as a weapon to defeat Galaxia. When Serenity is unwilling to do so, Galaxia shatters the sword and ChibiChibi disappears.
Sailor Moon continues to refuse to fight Sailor Galaxia, believing there is still good inside of her. She instead gives Galaxia the strength to expel Chaos from her body, an act which returns darkness to the minds of all life, where it belongs together with the Light of Hope. The battle is finally over, Sailor Galaxia's soul having been restored and the star seeds she had stolen released. Galaxia then leaves with the task of returning the star seeds home.
