heart heart Today is Valentine's Day heart heart

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the West, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery.

For me, it's been a day I'd rather skip. I've only had a boyfriend on two of my 29 Valentines Days. Both were the same : We were on the verge of breaking up so it wasn't fun at all.
In Australia it only seems to be popular with young couples, florists and greeting-card-companies.

What does Valentines Day mean to you? Love it? Hate it?

Tell us about your best (or worst) one!

Now, on topic. I have mixed feelings on the day. As a kid all my friends had boys that liked them-- no little boys liked me. I think my best Valentine's day is a two way tie between:

Freshman Year of Highschool- I discovered friendship was everything. We had "warm fuzzies" which were balls of string we gave to our pals. I don't know why but it was so much fun and made me feel special. It was one of those you don't need a man to have a good day.

Sophomore Year of Undergrad: My boyfriend at the time (the one I wound up engaged to eons ago) and I went to a dance. Once again, BF AND friends. Simply nice.

Last year was nice too. This year, I'll tell you when I get back from my trip. It's been a little hard. My boyfriend is absolutely a doll, but I've been doubting myself since I was taking DOOM class. I've been throwing fits a lot, and it didn't help that he stumbled on a picture of my uber hot friend the other day and when I asked admitted she was attractive--- ouch. But he's very honest with me, so I have to trust him when he says that he finds me more attractive for being a total package. Though that makes me wonder, uh, is that guy speak for "you're not as hot but you have some personality quirks to compensate for it?"

>.> Uh sorry, tangent-forming am I.

Worst V-day... too many to count. Once again, I was the girl no one wanted for so many years. I could do without those obnoxious singing plushies, roses, or chocolates. What I don't do without is the same love and affection everyone deserves. My V-day wish though is that some year my mom might have someone romantic in her life that let's her know how special she is. As a daughter I'm bummed that she's never been really affectioned upon by a man like she deserves-- ya know?

Gah I have mixed feeling...24 years if I recalled only celebrated it twice with a real bf, my first yr Valentine's with him we we're in a verge of breaking up because he started talking to someone else gonk ...that was an all time low finally had a real bf, just for him to snuggle it with someone else and celebrating v-day.... sweatdrop emo burning_eyes yet it was a start of lies instead of coming together stronger you can say I've been burnt ever since the lies piled up....who knows maybe I'm still naive with this love thing and still living in fantasy world.....oh well all I can say Lesson well learned....... my best v-day was celebrating it with my parents. When I was young boys was too intimadated to say anything to me confused , I guess I wasn't as flirty, and wore men clothes better than most men...don't know don't care anymore. But nonetheless with my past experiences, I love heart in general it's beautiful thing especially when you can experience loving and not expecting nothing in return, recovering from b.s. is the hard part xp , not God, I tire from literally stabbing of the heart.

I actually can't recall a bad Valentine's day. I don't get hung up over boys and I always try to surround myself with great friends. Back when I was single, it was a girl's night out thing. But after I got a job, I can't remember the last Valentine's day I didn't work. It's a pretty big deal for us. We deliver steak and roses and cookies.
But I still rather enjoy it. It sounds uber corny but there's never been a year where I haven't brightened someone's day. You can tell that there's always that one lady that looks like she's had the roughest day and, no matter the circumstances, you know that she's going home alone. The minute you present that rose to her, you can tell that you just brightened her entire night. And it's real sweet to watch them wait for their food in the lobby, smelling their flower and overall feeling better. And then you always get that one guy that's in a panic. Before he rushes off to the grocer's florist, you give him the rose and he breathes a HUGE sigh of relief whee
And it's real cool to see everyone at my work happy all at the same time, cause EVERYONE works on Valentine's day.
As far as any personal plans go-Well, the boyfriend is working too. So after we both get off of work and clean, we're probably just gonna' order a pizza and watch a good movie. We usually take a belated date, but I dunno if we will this year...
I hope everyone has a good one this year ^.^

So nice! I think that would be a great job - being the person to deliver something that makes someone happy!

Personally, I think Valentine's Day is overrated as a holiday; I mean everyone should love or at least respect everyone EVERY day not JUST on Valentine's Day. heart Now St. Valentine, himself was a very pious man who deserves a feast day (which is what Valentine's Day is supposed to be), but then to flower it up (sometimes literally) with a holiday to celebrate love and such I think is just ridiculous because as I said we should all respect others and show our loved ones how much we love them every day not just on Valentine's Days. 3nodding

The best Valentine's Day I had was when I was back in college/university the first time. I don't recall where my roommate was, maybe she was in the hospital for the umpteenth time that year (another story some other time), but I was all alone for the holiday and my crush asked me to meet him in the campus chapel. We spent most of the afternoon and into the early evening there just reading scripture and praying for others. Then I asked him to join me in the school cafeteria for dinner. We sat at a table by ourselves and enjoyed more scripture and each other's company. After dinner we walked out and watched the stars come out. After watching most of them come out, he walked me back to my dorm room and we said good night and God bless to each other. *sighs dreamily* I will never forget that Valentine's Day as long as I live (nor will I forget him). We never formally went out with one another, but I think everyone thought of us as an item on campus. He is now happily married with two beautiful (I assume) children and a wife. (I assume she too is beautiful.)

I'm sure most people don't think of reading scripture as romantic or anything, but it was the most wonderful Valentine's Day I've had to this day. 4laugh heart

I just think Valentine's Day is just one of those holidays that isn't really needed. Oh well, got to find a way for them stores to sell those candys and cards lol sweatdrop .

Typically I've enjoyed Valentine's Day as a way to get chocolate on discount or give friends silly valentines. This year was only the second time I've ever had a boyfriend on Valentine's day. It was actually really fun...I painted my boyfriend a picture as a present and we drove up to visit my parents...my boyfriend was very sweet. smile It wasn't overdone, just enough.

Best year was in HS, my friends (most of whome had bf) brought me all sorts of goodies, made me feel loved!
