Hey guys,

I've been working on a pretty extensive set of poetry that I have decided to publish as a book and I'm wondering if anyone actually goes out and looks into new authors and books in the realm of poetry. In all honesty this is more of a personal fulfillment than business venture, so all input is relevent. Thanks in advance biggrin

Hm I'm not a big poetry fan so I don't really go out of my way to find new poets but, if someone who knows my tastes pretty well recommended a book of poems, I'd at least check it out smile

Poems?

"I once had a girl in my bed
Afterwards she asked me to wed
She said she was pregnant
so I went to the cabinet
and pulled out a pipe made of lead"

=D

Not originally mine, but I read it earlier today and chuckled. I figured I'd share it with everyone.

Haha, very nice. Once I can actually get my work back from my desktop I'll post a couple here before the book comes out cool

To Travelers ( May 08 )

Life is our masterpiece
or someone's at least
the flush of wind on our cheek
or the grandeur we seek to keep
We have our art, our chosen craft
in each nothing idea we chose to laugh
Because music is your life
and weaving is mine
Because music is your gift
and false truths can twine
Music is the love you speak.
Bend the time with calm
inhale and hold the second hand where it will rest
to halt the minutes and the hours from slipping away
to the exhale of perfection in the obvious
and honest conversation beneath its branches.
Happy can really be simple
especially if you've really found it
It means not regretting the past or the future;
it means letting go.
It means remembering to say goodbye to the only strength you've ever known
and majesty for which you were so loved.
It means deciding to break the nerves that bind you to your body
and connecting to the impulses on the wind beneath your feet.
It means recognizing happiness is worth respecting
no matter the masquerade you see.
This all means I've finally decided what to say
after closing these eyes for so long.

This one's older, still one of my favorites.

Ascension ( Mar 06 )

The end of this day draws near
I’ve watched it’s coming, like sands in an hour glass
In which one grain’s passing was not missed
Much like the roots of weeds absorb everything given them
So too have my eyes absorbed everything given them of the world
I’ve lived quietly to this point,
Forsaking the identity and responsibilities that accompanied my birth
I went about my business with my face in shadow,
Veiled by the hooded cloak that I have become much accustomed to
There are those that know my name, yes,
But more in the way that each person’s name reminds them of a face
Whether this face is friend or foe I care not;
My destiny is not in their hands.

My focus is on those sails
I find suspicion in the conveniently ordinary
The way the sea delivers this vessel…
Much more like a flaming baton in a relay,
Than a welcome guest
Such a shock of white in a hanging gloom is rare,
The fact rumors of outsiders have already swept over the cobblestones
Only thickens this heavy air
Like wary beasts my kinsmen lie in wait,
Their faces alive with fear and wonder
Accentuated by the single flickering candle,
Quivering before the fierce winds and dark fortune they bear.
It is for this reason I carry the sacred blade,
As far as we have come,
As civilized as we claim to be,
There are still many times it protects me when my words alone cannot
I spare no pity for the fools reason has left;
They are my enemy.

So now,
As the sky darkens with screams for mercy and justice
And as streaks of murder and power bleach the dark with increasing frequency
I leave my shadows behind
A crowned prince of the night and guardian of my realm,
These are the titles I remember in these times,
These are the duties I bear.

A hero who returns home to a place the evil never touched
Is both fortunate and relieved of his works
Even on stormy nights when the hauntings of his final battle fill his mind,
The reminders of an unconscious will that carried him to victory,
Support will be nowhere in reach
For no sooner will the happy understand pain
Than the thirstless know relief.
