Yes, it is a genre. "Southern Goth" or "Goth-country" apparently has several bands that fall into the genre.
Just for all you kiddos that didn't know.
We have:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Slim Cessna's Auto Club
The Walkabouts
Myssouri
Lilium
The Kill Devil Hills
Midnight Choir
Those Poor Bastards
Dirtmusic
Just to name a few.

There's also Reverend Glasseye. Maybe The Creepers count as well, but I'm not sure.
And while you're mentioning the Bad Seeds, you may as well mention The Birthday Party.

Reverend Glasseye and His Wooden Legs are probably the single best group in the genre, IMO. All three releases have been excellent, largely in part to the vision of quiet Slim Cessna's Auto Club veteran Adam Glasseye.
Also notable for fans of Slim Cessna's Auto Club would be The Denver Gentlemen and 16 Horsepower. Two pretty great groups, really, though, I don't like either quite as much as I like SCAC.

Holy.....crap........ o_o Well, I will say this.... it sounds better than the new stuff from Sisters of Mercy... nice sound.... I just usually...... -gags- One of my gothy friends has a redneck dad... this will be a nice compromise between the two of them.... and between, out of four goths in the close by area, between the two of us who hate country and the two of them who like it............. Well, goth moved on to metal, techno, instrumental, ext... guess it was only a matter of time. However, I do like the lyrics of alot of these bands you listed....

Ok, I'm starting to get use to it.... pretty nice.... just an odd thing... like at first I really didn't like it, but I couldn't stop listening.... ._.
