My girl cat has been urinating in my house for a while now. She uses her litter box, but she doesn't always want to use it. My parents are getting new carpet eventually and they say she has to go out when they do. (And yes, she has been caught doing it.) Now, she has to live outside! She still gets fed and taken care of, but she keeps meowing and wanting back in. I feel terrible because she doesn't understand why she's stuck outside. I've had this cat for about ten years, and in those ten years she's lived inside, except for when she spends a few hours outside. Is there any way I can persuade my parents to let her back in, or is there something I can do to make her stop going to the bathroom in different places in the house? Or is it just a bad habit? Please help! cry

first thing you should do is take her to a vet and make sure nothing is wrong like a urinary tract infection. explain that she is not using the box and they'll check her over.
she may also not like the box, litter, or location of the box. it could also be that the litter is not clean enough for her standards. make sure you haven't change litter brands, litter box or location of the box.
make sure it is also not to close to her food. cats don't like to use the bathroom to close to the food.
check to see what could be around the box. something might be disturbing her, like if its close to a washer or dryer.
you can also check the depth of the litter. should be a good 3-4 inches.
i know that our cats did it when we changed work schedules and didn't give them the same amount of attention that we used to.
you can also try and get a second litter box. some cats like to pee in one and poo in another.
you can also try and re-train her. you would basically lock her in a room (advise tile or linoleum floor for easy cleaning). in that room would be the litter box, food, toys and a bed (if she uses one). you would keep her in there and let her out occasionally and with supervision. as she does better with the litter box you could let her out longer.
you could also see about a kitty door, then she can go outside when need be. if you have animals that might come into the house univited, you can get one of the doors that has a special collar that unlocks the doors.

Thank you so much! I'm definitely going to take that advice. biggrin
