If this doesn't belong here, I'm sorry (didn't see anything about a topic like this). Anyways, I'm just curious of how your parents feel about anime. Do your parents ban it from your house, or are they bigger anime nerds than you? Do you really care how they feel about it?
My parents are kind of in the middle. They really have no interest in anime whatsoever, but they don't mind me liking it. My mother will rarely call my anime fandom my "crack addiction," which seems about right sometimes! xd xd xd

My mum doesn't care, and I don't care how she feels about it so it all works out.

My dad doesn't have a problem with my anime or manga collecting (as long as it's not freakishly expensive), but lately my mom's been having issues. Or at least, it sounds like it.
Like, I bought 3 comic books, and she actually asked "Why do you buy those if you'll only read those once?" I was like "WTF?" My real reply was "I don't read them only once. I use them for other things than reading, and I read them over again, just like any other book." She actually suggested once that I SIT IN THE STORE, read the stuff I was gonna buy, then put them back up instead of buying them.
As with the few anime boxsets I do buy/are given, I asked for 2 parts of the Slayers series for this Christmas, but last night I saw something that had 5 Slayers movies in 1 box for 34.99. My mom goes "Why are you collecting all these?" Well gee, I don't want to condone piracy and want my own copies? was what went through my head, but I said "Because I haven't seen alot of the series (which I haven't)

Haha, Phantom, your mum seems funny XP
My parents were into anime when they were a lot younger, particularly my dad, so when I got into anime it was all good. Now that my little brother is into it too, I think they take more notice. Sometimes they'll joke and ask "Are you watching that kiddie porn again?", because fanservice is so prevelent in what he watches/reads XD

At least your parents knew about it when they were younger, if they're not still into it. My parents (I bet) were hoping I'd grow out of it when I got addicted at 13, and while I have toned it down alot, I'm still addicted to the foreign cartoons/comic books. They probably thought I was going through a phase =/
Anyway, my mom's only been like this the last few months. She's been MANY things the last few months -_- And I mean, I do re-read my manga. I'm currently re-reading the Utena series

My parents don't care, I am my own person, they could care less what I watch as long as it's not porn. xD
They don't really know what it is, either. They just know it's 'cartoon-like' something like that. I tried to explain it once a few years back, as 'They're cartoons from Japan.' it didn't really sink in. But whateverrrr. I move out in two weeks, so =]

I guess you could try to explain that to her, but you probably know more than I that it wouldn't work. How old are you now?
My parents are total geeks anyway. My dad's into sci-fi (just like me XP) and my mum is just super smart.

Explaining that anime is virtually the same as western cartoons doesn't work very well - at least not in my experience. It's more of a culture barrier I think - Anime incorporated japanese colloquialisms and culture and to a lot of people that's just strange. I dunno - in my experience few people are willing to look past that and see the actual story. Then again,, the stories are also pretty different from western cartoons. Though I still put that down to culutre and a rich background in mythology.

My parents understand anime...a little. At least they know some of the lingo, so its never "those Japanese cartoons" or "those backwards comics." I've thought about trying to introduce them to some of it, but you never know what they might try. I think my parents would have a heart attack if they watched the first episode of Elfen Lied (if not, then they'd probably kill me sweatdrop )

My parents would kill me for watching almost anything. Anything with too much innuendo or awkwardness (bye-bye shojo), or too much violence, or whatever. When I was little they would have killed me for watching Pokemon . . .

alvhinne Tarantellatears When I was little they would have killed me for watching Pokemon . . . they prefer teletubbies 4 u... xd xd xd Nope, Batman and Spiderman. =] They never really liked me getting into mythology and stuff when i was younger - which I SUPPOSE I can understand. Because if you're a kid and think stuff like that is real it can mess with you. But still. Eh. I still did watch Batman and Spiderman though. I was a cartoon freak. =]
