Okay, so I'm no newbie to marching bands. My brother has been in it for 3 years and I go to almost every single competition. I am big into dance and stuff, and I love my brother's marching band to death. So, I decided that I'm going to tryout for Color Guard. Any advice for tryouts?

Just keep a good attitude and make a serious effort at what they ask you to do. I don't know how your guard does things but our tryouts are based on how nice you are, if you get along with everyone and if you try what we ask whether you do it well at the time or not smile Good luck!

Keep a smile on your face.
If you have to try out with a flag or rifle make sure you know the basic, drop spins, peggie spins, and tosses. IF you drop doing a toss but be bummed about it. Smile and contiune on. Make sure you can march in time too thats a biggie. But im sure you will do great =]

Don't get discouraged if you don't get it right away. Just keep trying. And never utter that ugly phrase... "I can't."

your good at dance huh?

its funny. me and my coach were just talking about this. If you've done dance before, you should have the confedence to do guard. Damce alone should get you in... everything else is up to th coach to teach you.

wor on hand eye cordination and if you want to try out for weapon ( only if its your second year though, my personal opinion, freshman should learn weapon line?.

You'll get in if you have a good attitude toward it and show no signs of giving up. Saying "I can't" will ensure that you won't get in. Having previous dance experience will really help you, too. They usually ask you about that kind of stuff at the tryouts.

(Kid Of The Kingdom: In my opinion, freshman should only spin flags their first season. If they catch onto that really quickly, then maybe they can spin rifle in winterguard, but not before then. Rifle and saber are a bit more dangerous than flag, and you don't want the newbies to break anything. And by that, I mean bones. Then again, they might break the weapons too by dropping them too much... lol ))
