OK, so. It's been a very long time since I've posted a roleplay. So I want to run it by everyone here. I had a brainwave at 1 AM and decided that this was a good roleplay idea. So here goes(No story, just general ideas for one roleplay):

Dystopian Era.

'The Government' rules the world and all it's people.

People have recently gone missing and never heard of again.

Rumors of The Government experimenting on humans to unlock the powers of the mind. (i.e. psychokinesis, hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis)

They tell the successful experiments to use their abilities to bring down the enemy.

Ok, to sum it up. Basically this roleplay will be about those few successful experiments and their struggle between what they're told, and what they start to perceive as truth. There will be one 'experiment' human for each of the kinesis'. There will also be a group of 'baddies', who will be open later on in the roleplay, probably 3 pages in or so.

I know that it's really rough, but please, if you don't understand anything, please let me know. I'm planning to refine it and make it make more sense so that it can be turned into a working roleplay.

Comments?

I really shouldn't be on here at work, but I have a few minutes waiting for my co-worker to get back so I can head out to lunch.

ANYWHO.

I love anything with psionics. The character named after my handle ("Syrenrei") is actually a psion and so are both her sisters, one of her parents, and one of her three children. I ADORE anything with it.

I also love things with government overtones (as can be seen with Viva La Resistance!), so I am very likely to sign up for it on that merit as well. The government can make a good 'villian' as the absence of it can be just as bad as an oppressive one. It also can present a setting in which the heroes are underdogs, fighting against a very realistically large force that moves against them. That being said, the government can also make an interesting 'heroic' force because even the ones with the best intentions are mired in politics, red tape, and moral dilemnas.

I think its a good idea and I'd definitely join, but I also have a question, just to clear things up a bit and to make sure I understand.
What types of kinesis would we be talking about? Like, reading minds/surface thoughts, moving/controlling things with the mind, and all that stuff, I understand, but would it include things like touch clairvoyance, prophecy, visions, and all that stuff too?

Reading surface thoughts/minds is telepathy.

I assume that Auron is referring to the five schools that D&D broke it down into (psychokenesis, psychometabolism, psychoportation, clairsentience, and telepathy) or kenesis themes (fire, water, air, earth). I am not sure which of those two choices it is, though =)
PostPosted: Thu Nov 20, 2008 8:18 pm

I'm more referring to the kinesis themes. Here's the choices: Wind, Fire, Water, Electricity(maybe), Psycho, Tele, Hemo, Earth. Those are pretty much all the choices. The four main elements, and Psychokinesis will be allocated to the five main characters, the subjects.

Now, I'd like some feedback. I was wondering, do people want to create their characters around their abilities (and they have to be interesting ones, not cookie cutter. i.e. The pyro has a strong spirit, and is very headstrong and ill-tempered.) or would you rather me make pre-made characters, and you just choose which one?

Electricity, Tele, and Hemo will most likely be allocated to other characters, depending on how I work out the back-story.

Whoooooa; hemo? Like, blood?
Holy crap, that's one of the most amazing options in the history of amazing options. You could do so much with the ability to affect peoples' blood. In any way, for serious.

This...plot thought, so to speak... It reminds me of Ultraviolet in a sense. Y'know?

I'm rushed, so I don't have time to explain it but...y'know. :3

I'm definitely interested; and I personally would rather make my own character. It's more...personal that way, and easier to connect with the character.

I think you should go with a sort of hybrid. You could maybe give a little description of the characters, but make them really open to tailoring. That way, you'd be certain to have the qualities you think are necessary for the character bur there'd be enough leniency that people could still connect to and create their own characters at the same time. Does that even make sense?

Meenchi: Hemokinesis, or the ability to control blood in the roleplay will be a little limited. Firstly, in order to control another person's blood, they have to have an open, bleeding wound, no matter how small it is. The character can use the ability to heal themselves(i.e. make clots) and draw out at the maximum 1/10th of another character's blood. That's more than enough to make the other character weak, but nowhere near enough to make them keel over and die. More things he/she can do is take their own blood, make sheilds, get rid of poisons in their system, make blood razor-wire, and change their blood type. How often and how much blood they control is very limited, though. The more they use their ability, the more blood they have to draw out of their own body in order to keep using it. As with any ability in this roleplay, it will have a drawback. This character has to consume blood in order to keep his hemoglobin count up. Their ability destroys blood cells continuously, requiring the need for their replenishment.

I might expand on this ability, and must say I'm quite keen on playing it, although electricity would be fun too. I'm going to be elaborating on all the abilities in the roleplay, but I thought I'd give you a description of it since you seem so interested. ^.^

Silent: I think that's what I'll do. I'll see. I still have to work out the story. I've had little to no time to work on the roleplay thus far, but I will be soon.

I'd attempted a similar RP -SPORE- but it didn't go over well so I'd definitely be interested in another one. I'd love to help in anyway.

As far as cookie cutter characters you can always point out where you want the applicant to make changes when they submit their character sheets.

Hemo - sounds like an amazing power. I love the detail t requires any possibility of having more than just one O.o Or are you going to cycle through a certain number of powers before allowing repeats?
I'm also a fan of possession since it has the possibility to lead to schizophrenia and other insanities from being inside someone's mind, body and memories.

Ok, I'll be honest with you guys. I have not had time at all to work on this. I need to relax tonight, cause tomorrow is a ton of more work, so I shall be writing probably most of the story tonight. Then another night I"ll get the abilities done then put everything up.

Sorry for the delay,

- Auron Teh Busy

EDIT: I've got most of the story done. Just need like one or two more paragraphs. ^^

Right?

I plan, with this roleplay, to constantly update the roleplay, i.e. sending pieces of story to either the Resistance Fighters, or to the Subjects, in order to keep this roleplay active and interesting.

An example of a piece of information would be something like:

Resistance Fighters,

New intel has just come in. One of our moles has learned that the Subjects will be staging a mission to an abandoned warehouse that they presume to be under our control. Anyone up for an ambush?

These messages will be pm-ed to the members of the Resistance, or if the information pertains to the Subjects, then it will be relayed as such.

Now this means that in the roleplay, no character will have information like this unless they actually try to get that information, in which case it will be extremely hard; or the information will have been pm'ed to them. It is up to the roleplayer how they want to get their information, but the pm's will be sent if the roleplay needs spicing up.

I've never attempted something like this before, so it will be shaky in the beginning, If it doesn't work out, then I will stop and let the roleplay proceed, completely roleplayer-driven.

Any comments on this idea? I think it'll give the roleplay more diversity, rather than just going back and forth, the random battles between opposing factions. Also, just say the Subjects do go to the abandoned warehouse. If the Resistance Fighters do not get this intel by some means, then there will be no ambush. However, if they do get this intel, then they may choose to ambush, or they may choose not to.

*Very experimental*

I think it's a really good idea, and it's just furthering people's own initiatives in doing the same thing. Every now and then, people pm each other normally to see if doing something is okay in the roleplay, and this is similar, though taking it to the next step a bit, and I think it'll work.

It's a pretty good way of randomizing information flow as well so that none of the characters are omniscient.

I love the PM thing, it's nicer to have some information that only some members know rather than writing as though you don't.
Though there is no way to completely keep that information from all the players.

Question: Will the PM be sent to the entire faction or just the leaders?

I'm assuming that there is some information that will remain with the leaders so they may make certain decisions, such as having bogus intel find its way to the other side, splitting up into teams or doing things that lower ranking members are not supposed to find out about.

Not sure if that made sense. O.o

EDIT:

Okay better explanation.

Say you send the ambush intel to a faction leader. That leader can decide what to do with that information, since the lower ranks don't get that information they would not know that their leader is not taking action on it. Or they would not know that the leader has sent off a single member to spread misleading information to the other faction.

Unless you already planned to do this. Or have certain members go to their leader with information they received or act on their own because of what they got.
