But many are, especially younger men.
I know allot of this sub forum is ranting, and homophobia is something to rant about. Still there is hope.
Here is a little story.
When my brother was 16 he was in a class with one boy who many miss labeled as gay, but we latter found out was a transsexual. There was also a guy who would the nicest term for would be a loud mouth bigot.
My brother sat between them.
Two weeks of hearing the homophobic garbage from the bigot my brother couldn't stand it anymore and turned to him, and said. "Did you know that the most vocal homophobes tend to be closeted homosexuals?"
The bigot didn't say anything for the rest of the semester.
I couldn't help but feel proud of my little brother. xd

Heh I've already posted about psychological studies that connect homophobia and and homosexual repression...though I terribly hate the word repression seeing as I hate Freud so much. Because he is just...stupid. Still other people back the repression crap so yeah there are definitely suspicious part that meet in the backdrop. They believe it is a partiality with sexuality caused by popular demand, the same guys might be little spa boys for 60 year old philosophers, 30 year old emperors, or whatever male to male sexual relations might be popular and profitable for a young man of the ancient Greek. These days it is much more popular and profitable to be straight and hateful toward gays, but this does not stop the person being so influenced by his surroundings. In fact being told that may have just inched him powerfully toward the gay/bi/pan lifestyle as he is forced to take another look at all his gay bashing and wonder if it is him. Fun stuff.

Good story. Good story indeed. Makes me wonder about Austin "the Village Homophobe". He takes time every day during english, lunch, and gym (EVERY DAMN DAY) to say that he hates homos and if he ever met one he'd do violent things to said homo. rolleyes I bet if I popped that to him he'd be mad at me and be all worked up about it XD

I have a question. Is it true that 95% of all homophobics are in fact gay themselves?

I wouldn't say gay, I would say easily influenced by society. They might be more along the bi line of folks, people who if they stared long enough would realize they didn't have too much difference in attraction between the two. Society at the time is inched toward the straight so they retain themselves toward that, in a society like ancient Greece they might be more retained to their primal desire. But gay I wouldn't really say.

I have quite a few guy friends who are so comfortable around other guys that they'll hug them and even kiss them on the head or cheek in public. But they are also straight as straight can get.

No, not all straight men are homophobic. If you think this, clearly you have never been to Europe.
That's like saying that all drag queens/kings are gay, which also isn't true.

Most young men I know don't have a problem with homosexuality. They may not like it, but they tolerate it, which is just good enough. And I know a lot of young men, since I do happen to be in high school. The fact is, most of the homophobic male population seems to be in the older generations. How do I know that? Because there was a study (for Prop 8 in California) that the gay activists tend to be teenagers and up to people in their thirties. The less liberal people are much older. And that seems to be true, at least in this state I live in.
By the way, I love that story. I should totally share it with the GSA.

First, you have an amazing brother!
I've got a friend just like that. He had a feminist older sister, so that's how I explain his amazing-ness. He's straight as an arrow but is always sticking up for the gays (like me >_<)

Most of my male friends are straight -while I in fact am not.
It's all a matter of opinion and how they where raised. Sometimes -not all the time. Many of the homophobes that I have had the unpleasantness of meeting, shared the same views as their parents. And to tell the truth, most of the homophobes that I do know, are female.

I wouldn't say all straight men are homophobic--but most of the guys I know tend to b***h about them in private. However, they don't tease or laugh &point in public. Take my brother for example,he loves the food at this restaurant thats near the gay village. All the waiters happen to be gay but he doesnt let that bother him.
My best friend got a new bf and he happens to hate gay people.I like to tease them cause of that. so for the few hours I hang out with them,I'm gay =D (I is a girl btw) And since hes still on trial (you dont just become part of the group over night, I dont care who you're dating D=< ) he has to be nice & who knows, might even change his mind about gay people?

They say ‘freak’ when you’re singled out. Being a guy, I can agree that most straight guys I know are homophobic. This also depends on which state you live in, obviously. Like someone said before who lives in California (I think), it's a lot different there than it is here down South. If you're gay in Texas, I don't recommend tellin anyone.
My brother has a lot of guy friends, and they're of the opinion that gay guys are disgusting, but gay chicks are awesome. X_x That pisses me off. Oh, since you're a guy and makin out with another guy then you're nasty, but two girls gettin it on is A-okay with me. Ugh. People are stupid.
And, as a young man in the yaoi guild, obviously I'm not homophobic. :]
The red. Well, it filters through.

Yeah! What is with that? It's annoying, and terribly hypocritical. Hypocrisy in general seems to be a trend these days >_>;; I wish people would just get over these things... I mean, is it REALLY such a big deal if someone's a homosexual? It's as if people think all gay people want to, and will attempt to, have sex with EVERYONE of the same gender.
My younger brother (who just turned 15, so he's in THAT age.) is rather loud-mouthed, and seems to think that gay people are a.creepy or b.hilarious. I have a friend who is pretty darn effeminate, and my brothers keep making fun of him and ask him, EVERY TIME he comes over if he's gay. Usually, this question is followed by giggles. And each time I have to stop myself from smashing their skulls.
I'm starting to give up on trying to make them model citizens. I should just dispose of them instead.

I can't really I say I agree. I live in Ohio...and well it seems that its a trend in my town for males to act gay? I don't mind it but, it is getting slightly annoying. Especially since my 43 year old dad pretends to be gay even around my 14 yr old brother....?
