It started off fine until... 1. The guard goes into a the band. Each band member is approximately one step appart and backing up while you go forward, flipping your pole. -Hey, let's fix it. The band moved closer together. 2. Let's make a wheel out of all eight guard members. Then they can run the twenty yards to their next spot. 3. Let's rewrite the end of the third song. You can jazz run another 20 yards and sweep in the opposite direction with your flag at the same time right? PULL YOUR LEFT HIP BACK! Oh, and could you do that in sixteen counts? 4. After that you can run another twenty yards to the goal line, right? 5. Alright, now run ALL the way around the field in thirty-two counts. Got that? 6. Hey, do you think you could pull of maybe twenty five yards in eight. Thanks. 7. Clarinets, could you please back it around the bass-drums moving towards you at a rapid pace? Of COURSE they can see you! You can see them right? 8. One last thing: Would you mind running off the field too?
It's the guard drill from hell. A Yankee class band (90+ members) with eight guard members makes for a hell of a performance...If you survive it! BWUHAHAAHA!!! Anybody else have drill from hell? And yes, the clarinets have gotten knocked over by the bass drums until they were allowed to front it.

Last year I nearly got killed by a flag at comp. It was the march backwords while the guard comes forward through your line bit. then this year i nearly got smacked in the face with a flag at comp. they had two short flags that they spun around behind them and she nearly knocked my glasses off.

We pull our show togather a week before the frist game. And every year it sucks so bad. This year we just stood in place. Our rival school hardly stoped moving and it was insane, then we came out and just stood there. Our colorgaurd only had time to make up a routine to 1/3 songs....we looked so stupid..

The drill writer for my first two years was a big fan of movement. Lots and lots of movement. He'd expect us to go twenty yards in, like, eight counts. Always pushing it...
The last two years weren't so bad since we had a new person writing our drill. This guy was more a fan of doing a bit of movement, then standing for a bit, doing a bit more movement, then standing for a bit again. Much easier on the band as a whole.
