So our captain this year sucks. . . a lot. she cant even play anything but bass drum! All we do during practice is sit, and then maybe go to sectionals. she never lets us know what were gunna perform until the day were going to do the show, and has us play cadences we don't all know yet. Me and all the rest of our line are fed up with her and want to impeach her, but shes the band director's daughter...so we cant exactly go to her for help. My sister is the Drum major, but she wont help either. anyone have any suggestions for what we should do? Thanks!

Honestly, if the nepotism in your band is that bad, go to the principals. Or the school board.

If there are any other instructors you can speak to freely, i would say go to them.

here's what id do thats what happened in the beging of the year with me and in the end torwards the end of feild season she finally got her act together so maybe if u just wait a little longer something might come out of it and posibly ur captian like wintergaurd more than feild. so i would just wait note: this is coming from a person in guard and has been in it for two years now.

There aren't any other instructors. thats the problem. I've talked to band parents and her, and she hasn't done anything. Marching season has ended and she tried really hard to get me off the line. (she never told me or my Boyfriend anything about practice for a month, then we got in trouble for missing practice...)
and its not that she likes winter line better, she cut it when the rest of us really wanted to do it. I've been in band for my entire high school (im a senior) and i have never seen a section leader that fails so bad.
I think i will try talking to the vice principal about the teacher tho...

Lori2345 maby you should try to have a pow-wow or somthing and tell your captin what you think. Weve tryed that. She didn't change anything. and we just had another performance where we didn't even know what we were gunna play untill 5 minutes before we went on.

mrgreen This is me just try to talk to her mabe discuss a set of date and times the band can have making a schedual is important no schedual no order chaios! Try to make the director make scheduals they work better that drum majors!! mrgreen
