So I just came back from our varsity game. Rancho Rams (woo!) vs Del Sol Dragons. Sadly, we lost 41-38. However, after all athletes had their say. On the edge of the track and field track, our band and their band meet up. No confrontations, then...
Some of them were talking about a drumline battle, I spread the word to us, then they start up, and we thought it would never happen. As soon as their marching Dragons were leaving, our marching Rams bass players start up with a beat, they respond with their cadence. Our lead snare starts, their snare starts up. Then snares/tenors, then both drumlines. All of a sudden, only one line was playing..... The RANCHO RAMS! They looked pissed, but the battle overall was amazing. Much respect for them.
So.... anything like this happened?

DRUM BATTLES ARE THE MOST FECKING AWESOME THINGS EVER <3333333
My drumline absolutely loves doing them :3 So far we've only gotten to do 1 this season, though D;
They're like crack biggrin Like, I seriously can't sleep after them x3
I don't see why barely any drum battles occur D: Life seems incomplete without them ._.

at the last vars football game, our drumline had an epic battle with the opposing team's drumline. it was the Kamehameha Warriors against the Punahou "Buff and Blue". i have no idea what "buff and blue" is suppose to be. so yeah, the warriors (my team) totally lost the game like 6-28 or something, but out band totally owned them. first, the punahou drumline did this beat where the whole band gets up and jumps. and then our band did the same thing. and then their band did it again, but faster, and it was this constant back and forth thing that kept getting faster and faster until finally, they stopped and our drumline just kept on playing. it was so awesome and super fun!!!

I LUV drumline battles............. they are freaking awesome!!!!! The last time we had one, we totally owned. We played our cadence at a wicked spead and the other drumline (won't name because of humiliation) just stopped and stared. We were awesome. heart That was like the best day of my life. you just get this high, ontop of the world feeling.

I love line battles! We only got to do one this season so far, so hopefully the other band will show up tomorrow.
Here's how it went.
I was playing 2nd bass on that game, and I'm the best out of the whole bass line. My drumline always wants to start a battle with a bass solo, so they all looked at me to do it. I hesitated a little bit, but I accepted to do it. I put on the 1st bass drum and when the whole band was quiet, I popped up at the most randomest moment. My solo was nothing but rolls and 32nd notes. We showed them. Then the other bands bass did a solo, but we couldn't hear them, so my band was like "WHAT!" Then the tennor for the other drumline played. I was experienced on tennors too, so I told one of mine to take off his drums and put them on me, and I did my own solo. It was pretty epic!
This is going to sound like a novel now. xD
We used to this snare player on my band who was amazing but he graduated last year, he is now in some drum corps called "Teal Sound." His name was Jason.
So the other bands snare did their solo, and they were pretty impressive. and I, out of nowhere said, "Hey, who has Jason's Phone number?" lawlz
That drumline battle gave me the best feeling I've ever had.

I got something new to add to this now. Friday Rancho brought back the homecoming parade after 5 or some-odd years, and it made local news (WOO!). That same night was the homecoming game against Chaparral. After half-time, we met up at the SAME AREA where we played Del Sol in that drum battle, however none of us had our instruments with us, neither us nor them. We met up and pretty much we made friends (not friendly rivals, friends). we went back to our stands, and we hear an announcement that there was going to be a drumline battle. Then 5 minutes later, it was canceled by our BD. Some of our drumline (Shawn and Yonus, bass, and Amir, snare) got so disappointed and refused to play the rest of the night. That same night, the entire percussion section (battery and pit) had to stay in the band room for a little bit to discuss what happened. It was too much drama that I didn't really care about that much. They got over it the next day since we had a competition. Don't ask the results of the competition.
So here's my question: Does your BD hate battles, and how would you feel if you were to battle, and then have it canceled all of a sudden?
