So, I've been online for the first time in a long time, and I've noticed that, among the group I run with (or since this computers, should that be ".exe with?" Whatever) has dropped the terms 'seme' and 'uke' for the more Western 'top' and 'bottom' ('Switch' remains unchanged.)
What happened, I think, that got us to switch: we both started writing more original than fanfic, and so almost subconsciously we swapped them. But, the funny thing was, some people noticed and became lingo-nazis for all practical purposes, positively blasting us for changing our terms even though they mean the same thing, technically.
What do you guys think? Which terms do you use, and why? Does it really matter that much? Do actually care which? If someone you knew absolutely insisted on the "seme×uke" or "top×bottom" versions with no leeway, what would you do?

hmmmmmm.......well i usealy say seme x uke .....but some of my friends dont know what it means and it gets tiring when i have to exsplan over and over and over again....... u know that i mean......im a lazzy person and id much rather be in my own world in la la land then explain to people what means what?..........it gets anoying.......really anoying....but i put up whith it anyway
....
......its even more anoying if people think they now every think......about yaoi when thay dont even know what it is.

I use either or, it depends on the situation and who I am talking to. My anime friends I will use Seme and Uke otherwise its top and bottom.

I only say "seme" and "uke" in this guild because I'm mature enough to use "top" and "bottom" in the real world.

For anything anime, manga or game related, I use seme/uke. For real stuff ((porn, slashable movies)) I sometimes use seme/uke but mostly use top/bottom.

It epends who I'm talkign to and what I'm talking about. I usually don't talk about yaoi that way outside of yaoi guilds, I just say the characters' names. But in the few rare instances, I do use SemeXUke. In these guilds though, I've always used SemeXUke.

I usually have that problem explaining why I switched primary uses. I started writing a lot of original stuff and when someone I developed seems like the perfect 'seme-type' he usually winds up being major switch or a bottom…sometimes on account that they're too dense to read signals, and sometimes they just get tricked into it (increasingly often). Unless it's fic or random fan-theorizing, I've been pretty consistent lately with top×bottom.

I never use Top/bottom, before I got to know the Seme/uke terms I used dom/slave... But now I'm using Seme/uke, for to me top/bottom are more terms on positions rather then how they are.

Somewhat like Lajvio I used domxsub, though now I've been using more semexuke. Depends mostly on whom I'm speaking with really.

I use top/bottom because I prefer not to butcher the Japanese language with Seke,uke,yaoi,yuri and besides seke means, to attack anyway

I just use whatever the other person uses. Most of the characters I play (rabid role player, here) are switch or don't quite fit in a specific category.
