Like you said, Our worst nightmare is Carpal tunnel syndrome (SP?) I only know two people who ever got it. An Alumni from my school named Jake who is the best snare our school ever had. And the Percussion instructor when he was in a corp.
For other instruments I think there worst nightmare is having the instrument fall on their feet. I saw that happen with one of the tubas at my school. He got distracted and dropped his tuba, and he tried to get it to stop but he ended up just pushing it harder onto his foot.

i can imagine! its one of the worst handicaps for that position, even a broken neck is better than that! [if you survive of course]

That would be a real nightmare. I hurt sprained my thumb (yes, it's possible) before, I thought I broke it. If I did, I never would've forgiven myself. I heart the drums man, and if something were to happen to my hands..... I... I'd.... I'd die.

man, i dontt know what i would do if one of my legs broke. percussion is required to stand, so id have to sit uncomfortably on some wooden stool to play my marimba! D: it would suck! and a broken wrist is just as bad!! D:

Ouch. I get ultra-bad muscle cramps from playing the cowbell during football games (During gameplay, not the band's halftime show), and that's very annoying, since it impedes the way I play with my right hand. Plus, the school's percussion equipment is total crap, so I have a fear of it falling apart during a show. Seriously, the quads have black duct tape holding them together. And the timpanis never stay in key. It's so depressing... On the vibraphone that I play, there are a few broken pins/screws, so those will have to be re-soldered. And the keys are so scratched up from idiots (COUGHTRUMPET SECTIONCOUGH) playing on it with a pair of brass mallets, which the school should not own. I think they go to this horrible set of bells that we rarely use... And the marimba (Which I totally love with all my heart) has too many cracked keys. It's quite depressing. But yeah, my worst fear is that the equipment will fall apart during a performance.

My senior year in high school, it was our last competition of the field season and that particular show was kind of repetitive. Half way through the performance my wrist and my elbow locked up for whatever reason and it killed me to me to play. When I got off that field I was crying it hurt so bad and my arm was this nasty purple blue color from my finger tips to my elbow. The same thing happened during spring season of my senior year a few times...but we got gold at finals so it's all good. I'm not sure if it's the worst but it was definitely a nightmare.

I would have to say a drummers worst nightmare would have to be an injured limb, may it be an arm or leg. I play thr drums and I would die if something happened to my hands or feet.

Ugh, I have carpal tunnel. It's not severe enough for me to stop playing though. =] I think the front ensemble's worst nightmare is a broken wrist. Broken wrist = we're screwed.
