Super Buick
i'd love to go. baltimore is only like a 5 hour drive from here, but i don't have the money for the gas to get there. i've never been to any of those things. what are they like? i know they have one in pittsburgh occasionally.
There's a vast difference in cons. Otakon is one of the biggest in the country (almost 26,000+ people this year!), but there are small cons going on almost every weekend.
They vary greatly in quality, attendance, and events, some fail, and some remain, but usually they are all fun to a certain extent.
I have been on staff for the one in P-burgh for several years, though I'm not any longer, I usually attend anyway. I've been to Otakon 8 years running.
If you want to see some of my pics from Otakon (and 20+ other cons)
check this out:
http://flickr.com/photos/nessachan/sets/72157606680127819/Otakon traditionally has a huge (and heavily attended by screaming teenagers) Gaia Online panel. Last year they had a big booth in the dealer's room, with a magical spinny-wheel where you could win rare stuff like Kiki Kitties, but they didn't have a booth this year. (Boo!) I didn't go to the Gaia panel (though they were giving away prizes and everyone who went got a free item for the new MMO) because I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go with me.
razz Oh, I should also note that if you want to go to Otakon, you have to plan ahead. Hotel rooms occasionally sell out a year in advance, and become increasingly difficult to get as the con gets closer. Also, it's wise to pre-register, so you don't have to wait in line and/or risk not getting in at all if they sell out of memberships!
