This will end up being a big sap fest, I'm sure.
I just watched a program on animal planet about a lioness who would adopt calves of these little deer-like creatures. It was amazing, but kind of sad, because he couldn't properly care for them... It made me think of one of the descriptions of the goddess Bast/Bastet. She was described as the goddess of duality, both fierce and nurturing. And she was a cat being.
I think cats of all sizes are very amazing creatures. Especially females, who tend to have strong instincts when it comes to babies and other, smaller creatures. For example, our cat Pandora who we lost in a move many years ago. From what I can remember, she was a very mean cat who didn't like anyone. But according to mom, when I was a baby she'd let me use her as a pillow and hold on to her tail while I slept. I've also witnessed a cat bat at a baby's head because it was pestering her, but she kept her claws sheathed so as not to hurt the child.
So... any thoughts or feelings? Stories of your own?

When our Belgian Shepherd was a puppy, yet still huge compared to my calico, Winnie, she was mothered by both our pit (now passed) and the calico kitty. Winnie cuddled with her at night and played with her during the day. I think I have a pic of them cuddling in the post a pic thread. Winnie also took in the small kitten that was dumped in our backyard two years ago, and they still have a strong relationship today.
I had a cat named Shadow when I was a kid and he used to play with the mice in our patio. He wouldn't hurt them at all. Shadow used to carry them around gently and they weren't scared of him. It was pretty strange.
