I stumbled upon this freaky stop motion animation clip today, and I thought I would share it with you guys. I found it both interesting and terrifying, and I can't believe it was intended for children. Be sure to watch past the 1:20 mark, cause that's when it gets REALLY freaky. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ALO95kDh9m8So Discuss: ~What do you think the significance of this video is? What do you think it's trying to say about humanity, religion, etc? ~Should this have been banned? ~Do you know any strange children's shows that have been controversial? If so, post them!

That was down right disturbing and should NEVER have been shown to children! I was even getting a bit scared and teary-eyed in some spots. I mean with the dying and storms and what-not. Horrible! It definitely should have been banned! I am impressed, however, with the wonderful claymation action and work; but that was a waste on such a disturbing and horrible show for children! sweatdrop neutral

Wow. I think I saw this years ago. If it ends with Mark Twain hitching a ride on Halley's Comet or something like that, I did.
I don't think it should have been banned, but if I've seen the entire thing I don't remember a whole lot about it, and it is a bit disturbing. I think that depending upon the maturity of the child, this would be acceptable to show them. Kids are more resilient than most people give them credit for, and they can use a good disturbing every once in a while. I hate the idea of coddling children simply because they're children, especially past the age of five or so. Take a look at some of the more disturbing elements of older Disney movies such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Bambi. Compared with most Disney output today, those movies contain truly disturbing and frightening sequences. In general, similar sequences in modern Disney movies and in many other children's entertainment products, instead of being truly horrifying, are more like cartoon horror, cute horror, Disney horror, and drip with false emotion, formulaic drivel, and hypocrisy. What becomes of people who have childhoods so full of bland cookie-cutter style tripe and a multitude of straight-to-DVD sequels to bastardizations of both classic fictional stories and historical events? What do they do when they encounter the real world? To continue to live under a veil of fantasy may be the least worrying possibility.
Sorry, I just really can't stand what Disney has become.
Maybe I am what becomes of people who do see things like this in their childhoods, but I'm pretty well adjusted.
Right? smile

I use to watch that "Adventures of Mark Twain" show all the time when I was younger. It is pretty disturbing and has too many adult themes to it. But that's the type of thing I was into at a very young age. It's probably why I'm so morbid and twisted today. xd

This does seem very strange...perhaps it was created by some people on some...erm...substances. Very very scary. I couldn't watch it all the way through...
I dunno, the teletubbies also freak me out a little too, but not to this extent.

That Ursula octopus villian gave me nightmares for weeks! sweatdrop And don't even let me get started on the whale and that nightmarish land of donkeys in the latter. xd I don't even wanna think about these two before bed so I'm going to stop talking about them now.

...it managed to crash my computer, so I only saw a little bit. I'm not a huge fan of banning things - I think parents should be more accountable and ensure their children are only exposed to things that they feel their children are mature enough to watch. Most fairy tales are quite graphic...and many studies have been done to show that kids are really littke adults - they CAN tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Having said that, there is a limit....but I don't think it's up to the censors to say what is "in" and what is "out".

You know while that was somewhat unusual for kids...Different cultures, backgrounds, etc have different ways of bringing up children. Unfortunately the world is not a happy go lucky place all the time. Children shouldnt have to grow up early worrying about such things as that is the parents job in the beginning, but some people prefer to teach their children early on that things are not always cheery and happy.
I would probably opt for a different way to introduce my children to this wonderful world...But to each his own.
I actually enjoyed it for myself. Can only imagine a claymation geared towards adults would be like. eek

That show was freaky. It wasn't exactly scary so much as it seemed to focus on a topic way over most young children's heads. There was obviously a good deal of maybe not so subtle symbolism in it. I enjoyed it, though I can't say I would have been a huge fan as a child. Then again, it took years to become the freak I am today! biggrin

i found a shorter version of this on youtube before, i remember being really freaked out by it. I agree with Sablara in that banning is overused and the parents should really be held more accountable for what their children see. The bland mush I see on Nick Jr lately disturbs me more than this, thanks to the fact that I at least grew up on a Sesame Street where the Cookie Monster still ate.. GASP.. cookies. Everyone has a right to gauge their child's maturity and introduce them to deeper things when they think it's right, and it's good for kids to know that the world is NOT perfect and that they will NOT get everything they want the way they want it all the time. I dunno about some of the things that The Mysterious Stranger talks about, but that's more about the level of maturity it takes to understand them, and not wether it'd be disturbing or not. After all, I was obsessed with things like Beetlejuice when I was younger, and that subliminally introduces the same themes of death and afterlife in some way...
And WOW did I write that much?! eek

I work in a library, so don't even get me started on book banning... If there's one thing I absolutely despise, it's book banning. It's an insult to intelligence. I did a report on it last year for an English class, and it hurt me to see images of burning books. Books are knowledge... I don't believe in banning anything, really. A rating system doesn't bother me, because I don't believe 6-year olds should be playing Grand Theft Auto. It's up to the adult to decide what their child should watch. Parents: Don't let the television raise your child. Anyway: Neco Z Alenky is another interesting surrealist piece that has been banned from television for scaring children. It's a Czechoslavakian version of Alice in Wonderland, and it is eerie. It helped inspire Silent Hill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7StL2TFin0
