Welp, my brother just had a battle of the bands. And I don't know how well they did just yet, but they sounded awesome. Only, they were more of a reggae feel for the first two songs, and then the final song was a classic rock feel.
But all the other bands did rock.
Do you think it would be better to play rock or something different at that kind of competition? It was a simple festival and the bands were ALL from high school.

It doesn't matter what style they play, the only thing that matters is how well they played it and how they performed it. If they got into the flow of the music and the audience liked it, it doesn't matter what kind of music the other bands played. And its always good to start with some nice music then go into rock or metal.

I would do rock, but make up your own type. Do something you've never heard before.
