I know exactly what you mean. I heard the news on the radio around 1:00 this morning. A actually sat with my mouth hanging open for a good minute. What can I say? He will be missed.

Yonsan will be devastated, as will my brother Alex, they both love Carlin.

I remember seeing an episode or two of the George Carlin show as a kid.

I'm not shocked though. Sad the world has lost a pretty heavy duty comedian- yes, but not shocked. Being in his 70s he is a little young to die-- but Carlin really led a full life (books, awards, wild years, family, influence, and a following).

Looks like heaven is just plain getting full of the great icons: Barry White, Mr. Rogers, Mother Theresa, and now Carlin. Though I'm not sure exactly how George Carlin's humor would work in heaven...

My favorite comedian of all time. The world is the less for his loss.

The first time I recall SEEING him on television was when my brother, Steven, used to watch Shining Time Station and he took over as Mr. Conductor for Ringo Starr. 3nodding He was a great, great man! He even had such a wonderful sense of humor (even if some of it was a bit out there for some). rolleyes He will be missed.

though both great comedians, and i'll take nothing away from either of them, neither have the edginess and vulgarity that carlin used to get his point across.

I think I like different comedians for different reasons.

I think Carlin had a gift for making a real point with humor.

I think that's why I'm a big Paula Poundstone fan. She came to my campus Senior year and talked to us (and added some jokes). Never has a speaker gone over by 2 hours and I stayed, riveted, on a night before a massive test. She's a pretty inspiring woman if you ever get a chance to hear her speak in person. The best was her response when a little old man got up and asked her why she didn't have a husband.

Though Carlin is definitely edgier.
