I recently found a new Artist who has become known in America. Her name is Kerli and in her video "walking on air" i was shocked to see her in Lolita (like ) apparel, she even had a loli hat! What i thought was interesting is that she had her own doll fies, and she is not from japan. I like her music as it has A Gothic Lolita (maybe even a tiny bit) Of Sweet Lolita sound to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6xi7VY8iDM

That definitely looks very similar to the sort of BJDs procuded by Volks. I don't know enough about them to ... know what kind they are? Anyway, I'm not really getting a "gothic lolita" vibe from the outfits so much as a "gothic ballerina" feel. Especially because of the tutus and marionette theme. In particular, Swan Lake because of the white-and-black outfit switch and the ballet/point shaped fetish shoes she's wearing with the black outfit.
Kind of neat, though.

Same. She doesn't have the gothic lolita air, and her costuming are really not that close to lolita. Though she looks like she's trying to do gothic. EDIT: I see that she IS really being a ballerina, one of her pictures that shows a bio of her says that she used to take ballet.

Just out of curiosity, is this the same girl? myspaaaace
Haha her wikipedia page says she participated in a Swedish song contest (not just A song contest either, our very biggest one that's all over the media when it takes place every year) in 2003, and... And I simply cannot remember ever seeing that girl before. :s
She may have had a very different style back then, though.

To be honest it looks like she's making an attempt at dressing lolita and really failing, judging from the accessories. I do like the song, though.
What I can't understand is why celebrities have to attempt lolita and fail at it when they have all that money and can just make it simple and buy some brand-name.

The outfits are very classically ballerina in shape and details, down to the bodice and tutu. The accessories are also ones common to ballet, not just lolita [the crowns/headdress idea and lace-up shoes in particular].

While you're right, even if they're common to ballet and lolita, they're still common to lolita, and that she's also using the ball jointed dolls hints at lolita as well, because even if ball jointed dolls aren't particularly lolita, bjds are popular with lolita and have nothing to do with ballet.

Actually, she's using the BJDs as marionettes in the video; both dolls and marionettes are common themes in ballet. ^^;
Honestly, I think you're reaching too far to see this as a failed attempt at lolita rather than just yet another gothic-inspired music video. Not everyone who wears tulle and corsets with miniature crows is going for lolita.

I see where the balerina and the dolls make it look a tad loliish, however it looks more gothic ballerina doll person than lolita inspired.
With music artists its generally more the director who decides what your video will be, so even if she does BJD's and is into loli, its unlikly it had a very big effect on the video.

Pretty much. BJD's weren't really made yesterday, either. It doesn't directly connect to Japan or any Asian country. Just because there are Dollfies and whatnot, there are ball-jointed dolls that have existed long before those popular companies even came out. In fact, the history of BJDs have started and revolved within Europe, long before Volks came out in the 90's.
Ballet costuming came way before lolita as well. So the accessories and such aren't hints that it might be lolita-inspired. The form of her tutu is the "Karinska Tutu" shape, which is a bit in-between the two kinds of classical tutu in both form and stiffness.
So clearly the elements in her music videos shifts more towards her childhood and her home-country.

I never said anything about BJDs connecting to Japan, I said that they are popular with lolita.

They are popular with anything alternative, really, when you think about it.
