xd HA! I HAVE PROOF that marching Band is a sport when ever some 1 says band is not a sport say: twisted your right BAND is not a sport MARCHING band is. It takes at least 3 years in order to start to play in a marching band. BUT you need 2 practice and you go in compotitions. and you get P.E. 2 off if you do it like any other sport. SO HA! twisted then when they sit in aww get out a really hard peice of sheet music and say: lol do you know what a bar line is? A quarter note? A half note? forte? Decreshendo? An OBOE!?! Thats what i thought... no you dont. So before you go off thinking you know every thing about sports.(then think of somthing insulting, i couldnt think of a good 1) so there you go! PROOF! xd

Something I've always decided is that if you can get injured while doing it, it's a sport. Not to mention all the stretching, running, and excersice done to make one better

OP, you need to work on rhetoric. No one is going to respect your argument when you make it like this. What are you, 13 years old? First, stop using numbers in place of words (2 =/= to, some 1 =/= someone). It would be nice if you could spell better too. Second, stop and think - realize that not every person on this forum knows what PE2 is and most of us didn't get any PE credits for marching band in high school. Furthermore, there are some middle school marching bands, so it's not true that you have to play for three years to join a marching band. Lastly, what does musical vocabulary have to do with whether marching band is a sport or not? Now that you've been stripped of all your faulty 'evidence', let's try this again. So, what makes a sport a sport? Competition, physicality, a governing body, recognition? One could point out that marching bands compete within circuits (governing bodies) before judges for points under scoring systems not too dissimilar from gymnastics. It could also be scientifically demonstrated that marching band is extremely physical (for example, see the version of this thread that actually made it into the correct subforum - here). Lastly, posts that look like someone puked emoticons are just annoying and no one wants to listen to someone annoying try to change their mind.

Little_Sissie WHOOT! It is definately a sport! We do more than the football players! I be us band kids could beat them at their own game! We do. We've been practicing since the end of May, and the football players just started yesterday. They showed up after us, and left before us. We were there for four hours, they might've been there for an hour.

Marching band is a sport. It is about teamwork, and pushing yourself to do better. You compete with other bands, in addition. You work hard, but it is worth it for all the fun times.
Plus most marching bands practice longer than other sports. My band for ten hours a week, minimum. Band camp is about ten hours a day for two weeks this year. We put in more hours during band camp and the first two weeks of school than some sports put in the entire season. xp
