What WILL (or did) you do this Black Friday?
I'm going to walk under a ladder!
I'm going to let a black cat walk in front of me!
I'm going to spill some salt!
I'm going to open an umbrella inside!
I'm going to do something else!
I'm just here for the gold!

Friday the Thirteenth - unlucky for some, perhaps?

Walking under a ladder - A leaning ladder forms a triangle with the wall and ground. Triangles represent the Holy Trinity, and violating the Trinity by breaking it (walking through it) would put you in league with the devil himself.

Black Cats - In ancient Egypt, the Goddess Bast was a black, female cat. Christians, wanting to rid society of all traces of other religions, convinced the ignorant that black cats were demons in disguise and should thus be destroyed. In the process, they also destroyed the kindly ladies who cared for the cats, believing them to be witches. Being demons, a black cat crossing your path would create a barrier of evil, cutting you off from God and blocking the entrance to heaven.

Spilling Salt - Salt used to be an expensive commodity used mainly for medicinal purposes. For this reason, spillage was to be avoided at all costs. The idea that it is unlucky to do so probably stems from the belief that Judas spilt salt during the last supper. Throwing spilt salt over the left shoulder is linked to its medicinal use. If it could not be administered, the next best thing was to throw it into the eye of the evil spirits that brought sickness upon us. These spirits were thought to lurk behind your shoulder, waiting for an opportunity to strike.

There is a big list of things which apparently are bad luck; from opening umbrellas inside to 5 leaf clovers or breaking mirrors.

I don't beleive in "bad luck" but I still use it as an excuse to never iron my sheets (which apparently is bad luck also).

I'm not one to believe in the supernatural, so I scoff at these sorts of things. But alas, I originally believed this thread was going to be about the dreaded Black Friday in which people wake up early to catch shopping deals. xp

Well... i have to work this Friday at my awful job and Friday is one of the busiest days of the week. crying So i can definitely believe Black Friday is working it's evil on me. 13 is always seen as unlucky number. In fact, most buildings don't even have a "thirteenth" floor. They skip from 12 to 14 out of superstition! Hahah.

I'm working at the hotel on Friday- night shift. I'm more worried about the teens than anything else.

I'm working too. And probably going to see The Happening afterwards. (Would that be pushing my luck? surprised )

Oh come on, no one's going to go see that one? D:

I'm pretty excited. -_-

friday the 13th of march last year, i blew out my knee and was off work for 4 months because of it. generally friday the 13th is a very unlucky day for me. i can't wait to see what's in store for me today. rolleyes

as far as most superstitions, they were concocted by the very young christian church to make more people in future generations shy away from paganism. therefore, being wiccan, i'm not a superstitious person. however, i just have horrible luck on the 13th when it falls on a friday. i generally say it's because i'm a klutz.

Well I worked today, and was just planning to have a quiet night in, as I'm working tomorrow, and have an exam early next week, but my boss has bullied me into going to see Cut Copy. He offered me tickets this morning, and I declined, but then he put my name on the door anyway!

I don't have triskaidekaphobia.

Today will be hot here, for sure. I won't be taking too many chances to be on the safe side though, today.

I thought the same. Friday after Thanksgiving, the bane of retail and fast food workers alike.
Also, I almost ran over a black cat the other day and on Friday the 13th about 1am my job's network cut out causing us to refuse business to credit card users. They where miffed to say the least. Coincidence? *eerie music* probably.

I dunno- after that Scratch-er-tastic game of pool Wednesday you did have the Skee-Ball machine begin spitting out tickets like crazy. That was cool ^_^

Well. I'm not sure whether to be disappointed or relieved. Other than work being busy. The 13th was just a day... I did see a black cat the other day; three in fact...Oh well. sweatdrop
