I don't really consider it a true lolita style, either.

I'd say it's more of a hybrid between Lolita and traditional Japanese wear.

The other thing you have to keep in mind when looking at examples is who made it. Bodyline [who made the outfit in your photo there, as sold by Cosmates] is generally more cosplay than lolita even in their ordinary or replica-based lolita items a lot of the time.

I personally think it a bit iffy because of the way it looks, but provided that it follows the general idea of a bell-shaped skirt and modest fit, it's fine with me. .. It's not something, like guro-lolita, that I'd want to see someone wear on a daily basis, though. It's a bit too heavy-leaning on its theme and, while artistically appealing, a bit ridiculous for everyday wear.

That is kinda how I see it.

Like spuntino said it isn't something to wear every day... But I think it is adorable. Something to wear to festivals and such.

Actually, looking at my closest, I could make several wa-lolita looks quite easily. ^.^

I really think its lolita. The reason is because I think lolita fashion in general is more focused on antique styles. Perhaps more now than ever. I think it was originally meant to focus more on european styles from rococo era and so on, but with the more unique forms of lolita like casual, pirate, and such, it's just making sure it has that "antique" taste.

In this case, its kinda a hybrid of post war style that the japanese had when they began to have western influences. I think a great example is to look at apricot um... something on Deviant Art. She mentions a lot about how a lot of the more traditional styles were becoming more westernized. So in a way it is a representation of this influence back in the day.

Although thats just my opinon. Lolita is to express what has long disappeared in society a while ago. I mean it does somewhat exist in today's standards, but fashion-wise... who wears a peti now a days. So yeah...

I don't think there is an answer.
If it is done well, with the proper legnth, petticoat, amount of frills.. ect.
then I think it would be considered lolita.

If you are wearing a silky kimono-like thing with glued on lace and a petti underneath.. well.. You know the answer to that.

i agree that wa-loli is loli, as long as it is done right.
that really follows for any theme-based loli. if there isn't enough loli, then it is not loli. not enough theme, and it looks like you forgot what you were doing halfway through getting dressed.
