Hello there, xXxsweetkittyxXx here. In this thread I will be posting examples of the scam PMs that I get. Anyone else who wishes to share the scam PMs they have gotten before may post them here too. Just make sure that you have taken a screen shot and written over it like I did. This is to show people why its a scam. You can also list the reasons if you wish =3

One thing that I should mention before you start posting them is that you should not quote the PM in here. The reason being that if it had links in there then obviously if someone clicked on it then they are going to get scammed =( and you could get in trouble for that...

Attention! These scam PMs were not written by me.... they were sent to me by people trying to scam me.

And if you have any trouble with any PMs you get and want to ask if they are scamming you, just send me a screen-shot of the PM and I will answer the question XD.

Last thing, if you get a scam PM don't forget to report it =3 (its the red button with "Report this PM" on it)

There are a number of things you can do to prevent getting scammed by PMs. I will list two of them.
1) This is the easiest option blaugh Set your PM thing to no one! But i assume you are all on this site for the socialism so no.
2) Read this thread and what me and others have put in to further understand the minds of these hackers/scammers or you can read other scam/hack threads =3

lol here is another one i had in my imageshack account... and to tell you the truth i don't even like naruto and seeing as i never annotated it.. i will list the reasons why it is a scam pm
arrow asking for you password. MODS DO NOT need you password to check your account for stuff. They have full access to your account... including checking your trade history, gifting history etc. and also checking your forum posts which of course they don't need your pass for.
arrow see the user's name. It is not colored= not mod. But be warned as users that are your friends will have their names in blue and users not your friends are in black.
arrow the fact that they say you will be banned for not replying to them.. seriously a mod would not ban you for refusing to give them your password... unless of course they were corrupt

but its going the stretch the page... so heres the link
linkey <3
with the reasons of course...
arrow see the username... black color= not mod.
arrow asking for password obviously just wants your account
arrow the fact that he says "runners of gaia" and then he goes on "by the way i am undercover gaia staff" totally blows his cover...

Here's another one.
A buddy of mine (also a dear buddy to others here in NSTG) has recently been hacked.

http://img3.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/440d84ae8a.jpg

It's a slightly different scam from the usual "ask-for-password" scheme since in this type of scam, the scammer provides a link that directs you to a phishing site.

The core of the scam is notifying you of a certain unobtainable MC with a drastic cheap price. So when the victim clicks on the link, it will lead you to a screen that looks exactly like the market place.

Listed in the market place screen as well were the items (in this case, the ninja head band) with one priced at 2k ++ when the others were at 2 mill ++.

(I would like to get you guys a screenie but the fear within me has prevented me from doing so. Lol xD
I had to change my password ASAP after viewing the screen for safety precautions Dx
So I wouldn't like to go through that again xD)

Upon basic human instinct, one would like to grab that deal ASAP so they would try to click BUY. However, on that screen as well, it indicates that you are logged out of Gaia.

As predicated (by the scammer), one would login their details ASAP to avoid letting others steal the deal. Once done - WHAM!!! You are actually providing your login details to the scammer. The next thing you know, you are hacked.

In this case, the scammer is EEEEEBBBBIIILLL!!! scream
(Forgive my slight language alteration there).

This is because, not only did the scammer hacked her, the fiendish being also took the liberty of using her hacked account as a "scam mule" where the same scam pm were sent to those on her friend list.

Unsuspecting friends would not suspect that a dear buddy would send a scam link. So as you can see, this type of scam is VERY dangerous hence you should always be cautious of the pms sent to you regardless of it being from a friend or not.

That's sad crying It's like we can't trust our friends no more.

Like I said, THE SCAMMER IS EVIL!! scream

This type of scammer needs to be obliterated from the face of the earth!

Since Gaia has given us the benefit to edit url titles, some irresponsible people might take that as an advantage to scam/hack others ...

NEVER EVER click on links without checking out where they will lead you to.
ALWAYS make it a habit to mouse over the link OR right-click and check the link's properties. The destination will be displayed in the status bar. Make sure that it is a trusted link. If you're having doubts, DO NOT CLICK!
Better to be safe than sorry.

You know .... all you can get from these scams is gaia items and gold.

So, there are obviously some very rich folks out there with crazy items that they stole from others. It makes me weary sometimes, even of my own acquaintances here on gaia that seem to have anything and everything on Gaia.

I can't help but to look over my shoulder... and that's just sad sad

I hope that in the future Gaia can come up with a way to help this situation. A more permanent solution. But until then we are really the newbies and veterans only hope to not get hacked. Posting these scams here is an invaluable resource to gaia citizens.
