It all depends for people, some can possibly get over in a day while others might take years.... It depends on how emotionally strong you are, and if you have great friends and family, to listen and cheer you up and make you do something so you don't think of so much....
Time heals wounds; just don't go south and seek another company for pleasure to mask what you feel...take baby steps 'til you are for sure ready to move on and let go.

It took me nearly 7 years once to get over someone enough to move on. I had had relationships in that time but nothing was right because I wasn't ready.
Take some time, relax and don't dwell. You'll know when.

A special thanks to: Epiphany of Oblivion,
, Apostolakilaristoteles, Musika, and .[Glitter Poptart]. for helping me get my Steel-plated Ninja band
I read someplace... on msn news or possible comso??? that the more you are in love with someone the longer it takes to heal a broken heart, and the more you are crushed by it. But if you didn't have very stong feelings it will bother you less and not last as long.
But this is common sence if you ask me.
I agree with taking baby steps, you can set yourself up for a whole new world of pain if you seek comfort with someone you do not have feelings for or doesn't have feeling for you.
Dream achieved

I'm not stranger to a broken heart--I've had at least 2 break ups that could be said without exaggeration were "epic".
Sometimes the best way to get over a nasty breakup is to focus on loving the person who's always there for you: you.
Singlehood is an opportunity to rediscover and reinvent yourself. It can be liberating and fun. Love hurts, and loss hurts. It will take time, lots and lots of time. Sometimes if you focus on finding yourself you will eventually find closure once you've healed and are ready to handle it.
Good luck-- and love yourself!!!!

i would say it all depends on how deep you were with this person, but the best thing is to try and get over it best you can. move on and get on with your life. good luck, it's always a bit tough for a while but you'll survive! heart

spiritual_wolf16 How long does a broken heart last for? question I have had a broken heart for a few days and wish that it would heal and soon. cry Oh, you poor thing! In my opinion, a broken heart lasts as long as you let it. Cherish what you had, but let yourself heal and let go of what you can't have. I hope you feel better soon

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear you are feeling so down....
I think Antonia is right, you need to just focus on you! Keep yourself busy, and pamper yourself a bit, it really sounds like you need it right now...
I hope you feel better soon!

i was with someone for 2 years.. broke up and stayed away for a few months.. got back together and distanced again in the last year.. and i'm with him but my heart is still kind of broken.. every case is very very different.. it all depends on how much you loved them, and what happened to make the relationship end, in my opinion. just give it time.. the more you concentrate on getting over it, the more it will overwhelm you. just try to let it go as you feel comfortable..

You will get over it. It only takes time. Just fill your days with fun things to do and fun people to help you get your mind off of it. It does really help. Then eventually you will wake up and realize that it does still hurt just not as bad.

You just have to keep trying. It's not easy, I know. Of course, I am your friend. cool

As has been said, depends on how much you loved them. How long it takes to climb out of a hole depends on how deep it is, you know?
I'm still getting over one myself. And it's been almost a year. cry
